The longer the civil war goes on the better for the Thalmor, a quick decive victory for the stormcloaks is literally the worst case scenario since it will involve the expulsion and kill on site orders of all Thalmor agents in Skyrim

Theres a reason why if a stormcloak runs into a thalmor agent battle will be joined while in the reachmen territory and imperial controlled lands Thalmor agents are given weight in political discussions

The Dominion didn't conquer shit. They won one fight and took the truce when it was offered, but they don't have enough land forces and enough logistics to take on the entire empire at once.

Hence the virtue of isolating and dividing provinces of the Empire with strife, it makes it easier to backstab everyone.

He returns home to see his homeland unrecognizeable , he sees his countrymen oppressed. What did his friends die for ? What was it all for and because of that he takes a stand and holds onto his values. He fights not for himself but for his brothers and sisters that fell on the battlefield and never got to see home again

Cyrodiil is nearly twice the size of Skyrim and is full of well maintained reinforced positions.

Skyrim's main line of defense is that it's cold. The walls are crumbling, half of its settlements are rural, there's extremely few defensible positions outside of hiding like fuckwits in the mountain.

Not to mention that the Imperials have battlemages who are capable of causing much more damage than any siege engine ever could, and the Nords abhor magic so they'd never have this kind of firepower.

Oh and the nords have no standing army to speak of, each hold relies on locally trained guards who don't really transfer or move between holds.

The south border with Cyrodiil is covered by mountains, but that's practically all the defense they have. Meanwhile Cyrodiil has main reinforced cities in most chokepoints, every single one of those towns has fucking huge walls built around them. Breaking even one of these fortifications and capturing the city is tough enough, hence why the Thalmor managed to get the upper hand in an initial blitzkrieg and then instantly lost their footing.
