I haven't played each respective 3D Mario ever since they launched back in middle school/high school/college, and finished 64 a few months ago, then Sunshine, and I'm currently on Galaxy

64 has some of the best movement in any platform once you master long jumps, wall kicks, but Sunshine's felt even better, and FLUDD gave you even more control, I don't get why everyone calls Sunshine the black sheep, I think it has the best setting and pure platforming out of them all, to where going to Galaxy after feels floaty and simplistic

that's because Galaxy IS floaty and simplistic. mario maintains a set amount of speed no matter what you do and it almost doesn't affect his jumping momentum in any way.

This is going to sound weird, but I think Sunshine is a little too tight. Mario just jerks around instantly and it doesn't feel like he has any real weight to his movement.
