It's a good stealth game and I really really like the guard adaptation mechanic, but it's definitely not the magnum opus. Lack of guard density and the ability to make your approach from any direction makes neutralizing an area pretty easy.

There's no war going on... So there's all this empty space with only a truck or Jeep passing on occasion. No armor is present outside of ops so you never encounter an empty tank for taking or a full one when you're off guard.

There should have been occasional fights between Russians and mujahedeen as well as PMC and rebels in Angola/Zaire. Mgs4 sorta did this

MGSV would have been amazing if they'd reduced the world by legit like 70%

The vast, VAST majority of the open world is absolutely worthless and does nothing but force you to take awful helicopter rides every single time you want to go somewhere new
I seriously would not be surprised if half of my 50 hours in the game were made up of me running to new objectives or waiting for the helicopter

>>381956726
The game is broken as hell. Once you get Quiet is turns into easy mode. Here we have a game that spends more time in micro management screens and menus than actually playing the game. And then with all the thousands of weapon combinations they all become pointless when there's no incentive to use them. In Afganistan is just used desert camo, tranq gun, an assault rifle and brought Quiet. In Africa I used woodland camo, tranq gun, assault rifle of choice and brought Quiet. Did this all the way to then end and beat the game. Granted there was the occasional rocket launcher use to kill a tank or fight a boss. And the maps themselves are hug and empty as fuck. It was a chore to play through. I thought it would get better by chapter 2. It actually got worse. From a technical standpoint the game is impressive (except for having the worst fire graphics I've ever seen in a modern game) but the lack of engaging gameplay and being able to infiltrate from any direction made it boring, tedious, and repetitive. Ground Zero's felt dense, populated, was actually fun. I don't know how they messed the rest up so bad.

I do miss the camera angle from GZ. It's much better than TPP's.
>>381956726
But yeah OP it's pretty fun but a couple of things would have made the game much better. The GZ Omega Camp is what all of the major outposts should have been like if they were going for open world. Just a series of OC sized, detailed bases mixed w/ small ones in between. Imagine if you had to sneak through each camp to get to a mission area and if you were detected the difficulty of the game would increase accordingly. There is so much simple shit that should've been put into the game. The Muhjadeen should've had fights with the Russians. It sucks the modding community is really small (probably because the game is hard to mod), I'm sure someone would have done this already. Also, there's no reason for camo at all; no camo index, no plants and animals to eat/survive off. And Africa is absolute shit. Just nothing but mud and grass, all of the bases there are easily forgettable.
>>
Honestly, I thought the story was okay as it finally explained Zero's motives

>>>381956726
>It's the magnum opus of the stealth genre.
Why?
I can see why people might like the overall gameplay due to the amount of stuff a player can do but the stealth was bad. I didn't play with reflex mode (slowing down time whenever anyone sees you is a terrible idea) and this shows that the ai is dumber than it was in MGS2. At least in that game the whole base wasn't alerted as soon as I got seen (the ai either had to tell someone else, shoot their gun, or radio). The game was made around reflex mode.
Also the stealth gameplay boils down to tranq and balloon enemies. Choosing a direction to attack the area in no way changes this basic formula and it's always better to go out at night so I hope you like the green night vision mode. At least in MGS3 you had to hide the bodies.

Only counting the gameplay, I personally had more fun with every other MG game counting the originals.

Also every boss was horrible outside of Metal Gear.

Overall my opinion of the game is very positive, although it's a shame that kojimbo never got to finish chapter 3. Don't know how I would rate it compared to the other metal gear titles as its really not all that similar to the other games.

They should have spent less time creating 100 pointless filler side missions and more time making 5-10 more actual story missions that would have made the game feel a lot more complete.

Even then the pacing of the shit story is all over the place. It really seems like kojima just wrote about 7 or 8 scenes and planned to tie them all together later but ran out of time, so he just threw them all in in random order.

Your problem is you suck at the game and you don't know how to have fun, plain and simple. You cucks were too used to these games hand holding you through a linear story. MGS2 is my favorite but V is still good.

>>381962119

>>
>>381960829
No, it does not have a good story. It has good characters, some good scenes and the Paz side story is good. The actual overarching plot is an absolute mess with a shoehorned twist in at the end that just feels like a poor rehash of the themes from MGS2. Volgin and Psycho Mantis were awful, that infamous scene on the back of the trailer where big boss plays his idle animation was atrocious, skull face was a bad villain, and chapter 2 seemed like a bunch of unrelated nonsense shoehorned in. The last mission was just the tutorial copy pasted, and they didn't even include the endings to multiples plot threads they set up.
>>
>>381961231
>fox engine is solid
outside of looking good, it's a mess, and FOB(arguably the """meat and potatoes""" of chapter 2) shows it the most
>best camo index, every shade of camo available has some representation in the game environment

if the camo fits the surface, you get a 50% camo and the stance modifies the rest, if it doesn't, it's a 0%

>Making assumptions

Whoa It's almost like the game didn't give you any incentive to approach missions differently because it was the same thing over and over again. But go ahead defend it. All the other mainline Metal Gear Games had focus. Gave you a reason to use certain weapons and approach fights differently and use some strategy. That's the problem with open world games. Even playing on the hardest setting is easy once you know how to exploit the games flaws. And MGSV has lots of flaws.

This is just straight bullshit. Every MGS has far more tools than you need and you can tranq your ass of in all of them. The series has always been about being creative and having fun with the tools at your disposal. MGSV simply takes this to the next level by giving you infinite control over the mission.

>And I didn't even got to talk about story, just to entertain your argument.

Good thing most of your points are just nitpicky bullshit.

Also speed is very important in pretty much anything, how is that even a negative? Because you can't get good and need 45minutes to complete a mission? I find it hilarious people will bitch about how it is "easy" and guards apparently have bad vision (they don't they're the most advanced in the series and far more abundant) yet you throw a fit over having to get fast at doing something to get a good rank.
>>
>>381966021
No, fucking idiot, what I mean is that the game will give me a better ranking by speeding things up, and not penalize me as much for being detected and killing people than by doing everything carefully preventing them from knowing I was even there

Not an argument, and good job not denying those.
>>
>>381956726
Missions get repetitive after 60% of the game (you go back to the same places a lot of times to again rescue hostages. Something that didn't happen on the previous linear MGSs for good). got it about 2 weeks ago, old gamer but haven't played a fps/stealth game since perfect dark.

just beat the first chapter

pro:

amazing gameplay
AI is that magic spot between perceptive and stupid
gun upgrades are a fun grind because each upgrade really helps
the time-compressed missions aren't too hard

con:

quiet breaks the game
firing troublemakers is annoying
the supernatural stuff is way out of place. i'm trying to have a comfy stealth campout and don't want to deal with some asshole who ignores the established dynamics of the gameplay
fuck the cut scenes. i started skipping all of them after the mansion.

I'm guessing that the 60-90% completion phase is the most fun- where you're trying to figure out how to A+ every mission. It's a slow comfy game.

This could be GOAT if Konami just released the fucking mission editor and allowed user created/playable Side OPS, the game would be almost endlessly replayable
>>
It has a bad case of variety syndrome. The game is so obsessed with giving you so many options to choose from that it doesn't realize most players are probably just going to tranq spam to get those S-Ranks.

GZ had the right idea, give people shit for tranqs and let them either deal with running out or take a risk and wander around looking for more. The entire R&D system in Phantom Pain is fucked.

I agree, it's a very good game, plus it has the best gameplay in the series. However my problem with the game is like the problems I have with GTA V; it has potential to be so much more, but the devs don't fix the issues. Hell, at least GTA V has constant big free updates that keep the player interested with various gamemodes and missions even though they need a serious ant-cheat engine, fix bugs, and add more heists/ singleplayer missions; MGS V is just the same shit month after month with FOB stuff, the singleplayer/FOB is clearly unfinished, and MGO3 is fucking DEAD.

So no, not a bad game, in fact a very good game, but with glaring flaws that cannot be ignored.

good lord that's a great idea

I wish there was an 'urban' area. A war-torn African city would have been really cool as a part of the map, like the science base or insurgent caves in Afghanistan.

i just wish kojimbo didn't remove half of Big Boss' voice lines

i actually thought Sutherland was a great replacement

Snake Eater and the entirety of games as a whole> Phantom Pain

>half the game spent in a helicopter
>infinite ammo and weapon delivery

So stealthy, LMAO!

>half the game spent in a helicopter

This shit drives me up the fucking wall. The worst thing is that everyone around me insists that the helicopter rides really aren't that bad, and I have to wonder if I'm a crazy person.

I just want to be able to skip to the LZ at the start of missions, why can't I do that
>>
>>381973560
You can barely even call them bosses LMAO
That would require them to be unique and interesting

Camo does matter, it just doesn't have a visible index like with previous entries. Spot on about the camps though as they should have been big and detailed and you know, BASE-LIKE, i.e. big metal buildings with the works.

Mostly good points, but some things stood out to me:

>firing troublemakers is annoying
You don't have to fire them, just counter-balance them with diplomats. If that is still annoying, then fair point.

>the supernatural stuff is way out of place. i'm trying to have a comfy stealth campout and don't want to deal with some asshole who ignores the established dynamics of the gameplay
As something that's a part of the MGS series, this should be expected. The supernatural/overly-technological gadgets to the point of space magic has always been a part of the franchise.

>fuck the cut scenes. i started skipping all of them after the mansion.
Are you saying they're poorly directed? If that's the case, then to each his own. If, however, you're saying they're too many or something of that nature, then I'd say that the game is already the antithesis of MGS 4, to which more cutscenes are needed to better flesh out the story or just have a better story in general.

Boss.

I've just got intel that Mother Base has lost its mgsv meme reaction section. The struts broke off due to using cheap chinese parts. I wanted to save money for a....side...uh..project, never mind about that...

Anyway, we're gonna need you to go to a nearby soviet outpost, where they've stockpiled a ton of memes. You mission is to extract the data and post it here.

Good luck, boss.

You can actually start most missions on the ground, fyi. Now what really blows is since Kojima wanted this game to feel like a TV series, the opening credits spoil the upcoming events in the game. That shit is unforgivable.
>>
>>381973721
Well you can accept missions from your Idroid and go to the start point by foot to skip most of the helicopter rides, there is still some mandatory missions you have to exfiltrate by chopper. Also I usually use the flight time to take out map and plan my stuff, try to mark shit I fly over or dig up my tunes for the mission.

>You don't have to fire them, just counter-balance them with diplomats. If that is still annoying, then fair point.

I'd imagine that it's an inducement to get you more into the mechanics of tweaking your staff, like "why do my guys keep going to the brig". However, I think that, due to the the quality automatic placement and relative wealth of talent, it's generally otherwise unnecessary to ever visit that side of the game.

>As something that's a part of the MGS series, this should be expected.

sure, just a personal preference I guess

another personal preference as an old fart.
