this game was truly a gem
Currently $1.49 on Steam.
Unironically one of the best 3D platformers I have ever played.
>>381944629
game was fucking trash, literally ends as soon as you get the awesome water powers. fucking trash/10

Was kind of janky, but it tried interesting stuff, and I enjoyed it.

I'm loving Worlds

Chroma Squad
Half turn based strategy game, half business management game, based around starting and running an indie sentai show with customizable names/catch phrases/etc.
Probably the best indie game I've played in ages.

Gunman Chronicles
Dark Messiah
>>381943376
The Gundam Dynasty Warriors game
Murder Miners
Mercenaries 2 although I wouldn't say it's lesser known

>>381944629
It's a hidden shit. The water physics was cool though.

Luftrausers. It's a great pick up and play arcade game with an amazing main theme.
Evil Genius, a really underrated base building game with a comfy 60's feel to it. I think it's just 2.99 on Steam
You can literally be a comfy merchant making money or be a blood thirsty barbarian that kills anyone.
A weird little spinoff/clone of Bejeweled but you change the tiles' colors instead of their positions
It's actually quite fun, maybe you should check a few videos of it
logic bundle with hexcells etc.
>>381943376
Race the Sun
It's a cheap, simple game where you fly a solar powered jet thing and try not to die. The world resets every 24 hours and there's a high score and daily ranks

>Building the never ending tunnel because spies always go for a certain door over another while you mutate the spies smart enough to go the other way
The best. Samurai was the best henchman. Anyway, this is unironically the best Wii game that uses motion controls.
>>381945491
I always assumed this was a 4 player co-op game and wasn't interested.
But after looking into it, this looks great.
I like Cally's Cave 3. Pretty comfy, good sound track, fun gameplay. There's some better metroidvania games on Steam, but I have a special feeling for this one.

Azure dreams.
Most fun in ur 2nd playthrough. Try to get to the last level in 1 try.
crypt of the necrodancer
a rhythm based rogue like, that is normally challenging and incredibly hard if you want it to be, but almost never unfair. there is a small racing community that is in contact with the devs.
>>381945946

I can confirm that Hammerwatch is good, if you like Gauntlet-style games. I got it from a Humble bundle years ago, but I think it's definitely worth $2.
>>381944629
Hydrophobia is a game with some good ideas, but it's flawed, and honestly it seemed like a tech demo for water physics. But for $1.49, I think it's worth playing. Just be aware that it's not really optimized at all, last time I checked.

>found randomly from Youtube. Seems fun, but kinda unfinished. Would try if there was smth out there
AoW: SM is $2.50 on Steam right now. The best turn-based strategy game ever, with hundreds of units and 15 different playable races
Grim Dawn and Freedom Planet changed my perspective on indie games and believe that there's actual good ones out there.
Chroma Squad, but someone already mentioned that
The only sorta bad part is the giant robot battles since they stay the same throughout the game
Also post more minerals
Alpha Protocol

Agreed
A World War 1 shooter that starts off as a horror of war game and slowly fly's off the rails until you are flinging fireballs at Vampires with futuristic machine guns.
And for little more than a single US dollar
>>381951069
This girl is right, AoW: 2 The Wizards Throne is fun too.
It's clunky as fuck, but I love the story and aesthetic. If you could put up with its controls you could enjoy this. It's not realk y scary though. I'm about to start the 2nd gane, I hope it's a vast improvement.
Stronghold http://store.steampowered.com/app/40950/Stronghold_HD/
And
Stronghold Crusader http://store.steampowered.com/app/40970/Stronghold_Crusader_HD/

Any reason to play the original over the sequel?
http://store.steampowered.com/app/543260/Wonder_Boy_The_Dragons_Trap/
I've reviewed over 400 games. This is the best indie game I'll play this year, and criminally overlooked for a game that just released on steam a few weeks ago. I'd make a thread about it but you faggots would trip over yourselves accusing me of being a shill.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBcUUJxetUc
Killing floor 1.
Has bullet time, satisfying headshots, persistent XP perks class system, grainy survival horror graphics. Very satisfying. Steam game with a dedicatedly loyal server base.
>>381952515
They're not exactly hidden gems, people mention them on /v/ all the time and they've received lots of praise since their release. I love them but they're not particularly obscure unless I have a really warped view of what counts as hidden.
Mad good, sequel was pretty good only because of the mods
>>381943536
The creators' next game is also pretty damn good, too bad online and modding seem to already be dead.

>Hidden gem
Alvora and Voidspire. Alvora came out on steam at the beginning of this month. It still only has like six player reviews and not enough to have an overall review. It's a turn-based tactics dungeon crawler with party building and a class system with multiclassing. I only even found out about the two after an anon mentioned voidspire in a thread some years back or so.

you can do full play throughs with any backgrounds, different guilds offer different quests throughout the entire game but all lead through certain areas
I did 3 runs so far, 2 kill runs and 1 diplomacy run, currently at 34 hours played.
There's a ton of freedom in how you play/build your character but it's also easy to fuck up the first few times. Really cool hidden lore you can also find once you build up enough meta knowledge or get lucky

>>381958510
What exactly is this game like?
Did you know that hit psp game Lumines was available on Steam?
Dominions 4. It's currently 12 bucks on steam.
>A relatively straightforward turn based Grand Strategy
>Despite being relatively simple, the sheer amount of mechanical possibilities creates a deep gameplay experience
>The greatest magic system in any game ever. Want to cover the world in eternal darkness? You can do that. Conjure up a ghost ship armada to pillage your foe's shores? Sure. Sacrifice 666 virgins and summon an infernal demonic crusade? Yep.
>You get to create your own pretender god from a list of hundreds of templates
>Create your own unit formations
>Equip heroes and commanders with craftable magic items that can heavily influence the game. For example, Barrel of Air allows a commander and 100 troops to travel underwater.
>Fantastic mods and mod support
>Massive skill ceiling
>Dozens of civilizations across 3 eras with hundreds of unique units. Anything from undead Roman Legions that passively raise undead armies, to cave dwelling bat-people, to mindslaving sea horrors that spread insanity to areas you have strong dominion in.
Now that I'm done sucking its dick, there are some flaws
>Many obscure mechanics. Reading the manual is basically required for mastery of the game.
>Visually ass
>The screenshot I posted might mislead you into thinking it has a real time element to it. Instead, you get to watch battles that have already happened in real-time.
>The AI sucks and you will reach a point where you will pretty much have to play with other people.
>>381960714
This game, I personally prefer warship gunner 2 but is similar, everyone should try this hidden masterpiece, think of ace combat, but with ships instead

I liked that game
It's not very long, I got the 100% in about 6 hours, but nonetheless very enjoyable
It's the only actual game Winged Cloud made and it's not bad. The game is dungeon crawler where you recruit various cute girls with animal ears. There's clothing damage and a lot of nudity too. Someone on the Steam forums made a mod that re-balances and overall improves the game.
>>381964421
Problem is DMC is a much superior game to it. And it has H scenes.
>>381962941
The ending was weird anyway - not even remotely worth it.
NeonXSZ
Incredibly well made, pretty sure it was mostly done by one guy too. Only found out about it cause some guy offhandedly mentioned it in some review for an unrelated game on some website I forget. Really deserves more fans though.

Did you use the uncensor patch?
If you usually get disappointed at the lack of peril, discovery, and creativity in space games, Star Control 2 is the game you're looking for.
The game's source code and assets were made open source several years ago, which means you can play it for free.
http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php
Some words of advice/caution, the game has an old school open world, which means you should listen patiently to NPCs and record important information (like hints, locations, and objectives) in a physical journal. Also, this map is a useful resource that you should take full advantage of when looking for other civilizations or constellations.
>>381962941
listen to this man.
Enslaved is awful. The controls are laggy as fuck because every button you press triggers some motion-captured gymnastic shit. The weapons and abilities are boring. Most of the bosses are quicktime events. The story is weak and tries to coast one some bullshit about being "based on Chinese folklore" when really they just named their characters after a few in the story.
This trash is overrated by people who want to pretend they've found some higher meaning and they want something odd looking to recommend to other people.
For the DB fans;
Legacy of Goku II, Buu's Fury. Skip Legacy of Goku 1.
Legend of the Super Saiyan(SNES). Very amazing RPG based DBZ game.
Yu Yu Hakusho fans;
There's a sega genesis game out there based on the Chapter Black arc for YYH, shit was great. Check it out.
>>381964802
Yes, and DMC is still superior to it in every way.
It has it's flaws but for the most part, this game will make you feel like the ultimate fighting machine.

This is such a great game
Fun timesink for people who like getting high scores and going fast. The community isn't too big and the leaderboards are updated daily so you actually have a chance of getting the number 1 spot without having to compete with crazy asian people.
is battlerite dead? worth the buy?
Is Invisible Inc a hidden gem? I don't remember seeing it mentioned on /v/, but it's a great procedurally generated stealth strategy game.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/270150/RUNNING_WITH_RIFLES/
I think it's $4-$5 right now, pretty cheap. It's got a lot of big mods both on the Steam Workshop and just around on various sites like ModDB. You can play either alone with tons of AI or up against players; it's got a fun Army Men feel to it that's nice to play in short sessions. You can level up to get better gear and eventually start leading soldiers around yourself, along with calling in paratroopers, airstrikes, armor, etc.
You can play pretty much any setting you want, too. I've seen Zombies, Star Wars, WW1, WW2, modern warfare, Starship Troopers, there's a bunch.

I've seen two threads talking about the Odin's Sphere remaster and I have no idea why /v/ didn't give more of a fuck. This game is fun and gorgeous.
>>381958068
I loved the ending so much...
Earth's Dawn is a cheap as fuck Vanillaware wannabe game. The devs made a fair number of mistakes when designing this game, but if you can forgive the repetition and lackluster translation it's a solid experience. I put 25 hours into it even though the combat is pretty basic, mainly due to the constant sense of progression. Every mission or side quest results in items and new 'skills' so you're constantly upgrading X or getting Y
>>381953198
Well, it is pretty much a 1:1 remake of Wonder Boy 3. It's gonna have some design foibles a modern game wouldn't.

10/10 game. Literally how every RPG should be handled. The lore and history is completely optional and you can complete the game not knowing anything or what you are really doing. It was fun as fuck susing out what was real and fake and piecing it all together. One of the few games to give me "Aha! It all makes sense now!" moments.

Same here but afterrunning through the story a couple times to level up multiple charactersit's just some missions aren't repeatable.

Still I got it when it was 16$, and put about 30 hours in, pretty good for my money

this game is legitimately great, except that it's too easy. it seems like it's difficult until you realize you can basically beat anything by brute forcing it and eating damage.
old game, but still very enjoyableimo, personally spent countless hours playing custom games.

A Story About My Uncle is a short and sweet swing and run game that you can finish in a single 2-3 hour session.
It has some quite pretty zone and has a pretty comfy feel throughout the game.
It's currently 2€ on steam as well, so it's not a huge plunge, especially if you enjoy swinging/mobility in games.

Good, interesting combination of dungeon crawling and tower defense
>Distance
Interesting racing survival game with a nice "story", it's previous game made by the developers Nitronic Rush has a much more light hearted and arcadey atmosphere compared to Distance's darker atmosphere but the map editor in Distance is fucking amazing.

Here's a hidden gem for y'all
The Steam controller
You can get it, and DOOM for like $40 where the SteamController is normally like $60 and Doom is like $40
I played through NierAutomata with it, hell I actually went to a fucking GAMESTOP for the first time in ten fucking years and got it because I didn't want to wait for shipping
Also somehow it was cheaper than buying it through steam or amazon which is absolutely amazing and I doubt I'll ever be that lucky again.
>>381990697
Held one yesterday for the first time, fucking hated it, nice as a remote mouse though. The buttons all feel fine but grip is just fixing something that wasn't broken and the touch pads aren't as responsive as I'd like
>>381952686
The sequels all suck.
Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader are the only good entries in the series.
>>381943376
Pretty cool game, a wide selection of characters and neat options for character upgrades, plot is given from the perspective of two involved factions, both of which are playable.
Playing as either faction sheds light on events as the two campaigns are intertwined.
>>381990697
Steam controller is good as a couch mouse. Not as a controller
>>381990697
Nier isn't a super precision game so I guess it's not so fair to claim it's the perfect controller based off of that but I found the touch pad, as an idea and in execution, to be more comfortable than an analog stick. What do you think is wrong with the grip? My only experience with controllers have been Gamecube, wavebird, wii, and xbox 360 controllers and sans the wave (all hail the wavebird king of contorllers) it fits me the best.
>>381981476
I liked it too, although at some point when i lostthree times in a rowmy highly geared up dude to a random guy with a rifle, i quit.

>>381945116

Maybe not a game but a stellar game and very cheap at the moment on steam.
>>381979787
It's literally the opposite. It's memeworthy Dr Evil characters rather than muh deep anti stereotypes.
The entire Spidersoftware Bundle, now on steam for 17 bucks, from 90 bucks.
Games are shit for graphics, but they're some of the best I have player in my life.
>>381953452
KF2 is better at this point.
There's always that group of oldfags with any series that say the original is better and any small changes to the gameplay ruin everything, but there's really no reason to play KF1 over KF2 at this point.
That said if you didn't like KF2 you probably won't like KF1, as the core gameplay is essentially the same.
Titan Quest is something I never hear getting talked about.
Its a pretty good game, if you like diablo-like hack and slash games.
Offspring Fling! is a pretty fun casual puzzle platformer that's 4 dollars on steam now and has 120 levels ofpure hardcore platforming masochism

Fantasy Life
I stumbled upon it while browsing the eShop. Took me a year to play it since I got other games at the same time. The premise sounded kinda dull so I didn't have much desire. Was definitely a purchase I regretted.
But then I played it and didn't stop for a month, there was so much to explore, the characters were all very cute, the story was a bit weak but lead to some nice characters. The combat was surprisingly deep as well. There's just so much to do in it, it all feels pretty well thought out.
I don't think it's massively hidden, nor is an absolute gem.

Alundra for PS1. Pretty much the closest thing to a "A Link to the Past" that has ever existed. Takes cues from the early Zelda titles but mixes in some fresh elements like jumping, sprinting, etc. The world is beautifully crafted, the puzzles are insanely difficult but always fair and rewarding, and the combat is fun. It's also a solid 50+ hour game with plenty of side content and a world riddled with secrets and things to discover. Seriously, play this game.
Cook Serve Delicious is pretty fun and intense for a simple game, probably barely costs anything at the moment as well
>>381997097
Don't know what you mean by 3.3. It's a kikestarter game by Double Fine
In EA, but really good, and development has been fairly steady.
>>381953046

>>381945491
I liked this a lot for it's kitschy, self-aware atmosphere and humor, but it becomes way too easy in the second half, and there are very few different enemy types, and the enemy A.I. is really predictable.

For some reason, I greatly enjoy Chainsaw Warrior on steam. It's a port of a mobile game, and it plays similar to a roguelike (Point of fact: It was Games Workshop's attempt to create a fast single player RPG in the 80s with a deck of cards). You build your character or roll his stats on hardmode, buy a few items, and attempt to climb a tower (Represented by a deck of cards) full of traps and monsters. The goal is to find the big bad and kill him with a special weapon you start with.
Games are quick, about 15 minutes or less to play. It's mostly dicerolls, though with decent equipment and stats, you can mitigate most of the randomness in combat.
>>381943376
If anyone has played NES Die Hard and hated it, this game is a homage that's actually great instead of total shit.

Actually, I'm 99% sure that Blood Bowl 2 is literally just BB1 except with better graphics, a worse UI and every race stripped out to be sold as DLC. The gameplay is exactly the same and the AI is just as fucking awful as it used to be as well.
Maybe pick up the complete edition for like $15 once they finish releasing all the DLC, it's definitely not worth more than that.

Highly recommending Cook Serve Delicious, it reminds me of those multitasking cooking flash games from a long ass time ago but it's very well polished. Also the sound effects are great and it makes me hungry every time I play. My one issue is that progression takes a long time sometimes - you'll usually have everything you need to upgrade your restaurant and unlock more foods but have to complete 5-10 more days of service. Still, it's a good deal for that price.

Now this is the kind of non-linearity I like!

Is redout good? I've heard some complains about the controls not being tight, is that true?
Full mojo rampage is a cool "Binding of isaac"-like game with bullet hell and cool powerups and stuff like that. It's also dedder dan ded so get it with a friend if you want to try the multiplayer.

>he is actually trying to save what is left of humanity
No..well, not any more. He's basically just keeping it docile and stagnant because "wah, the world sucks now"
>Trip kills him for some reason
She doesn't want to live as a zombie slave living through this one guy's memories over and over..and doesn't like the fact that everyone else in the world is now doing the same..
.>Monkey who has spent the entire game being a murdering prick suddenly acts shocked by the violence
Except his violent nature is a massive issue in the game, and he's been seeing the visions of this one guy, and starts to think it might be humanity's last hope.
>game just fucking end there
What more would you like? ten more hours of watching them wake people up and explain the world to them? It was great ending where it did. Ambiguous. Would they hate trip and kill her for taking away their slim sanctuary, or understand the maturity of the decision?
Censored, with a patch in the forum. Really neat Princess Maker style game. Ooyari has a similar game in the works now, so I want more people to buy this so he knows people want the new one too.

Fate of The World.
Don't let the preview pictures fool you. IT'S NOT A CARD GAME.
It's a simulation game where you become the leader of a new organization that officially has to end global warming.
Believe me it's NOT a hippy game. You can conslidate your power in the world and become a dictator that doesn't give a shit about global warming starts a personal cult of personality and decides to genocide all non-whites to counter all global warming for example.
You can also explore for more resources and instead increase your production of fossil fuels to start an economic boom but at the cost of hastened global warming.
You can go and focus completely on technological research which is really wide. You can go the AI route and let all the world afairs be controlled by an AI or try to focus on space exploration to colonize another planet such as to avoid the extinction of the human race due to global warming or nuclear war (if you fucked up and some places started to rebell against you enough to want to nuke you).
The game is also hard as balls. Don't expect to win until you've mastered the game. It's extremely unforgiving and you will probabaly lose the first ~20 tries guaranteed.

Damn, I love coop games, me and my brother usually had good laughs on those games.
I remember I got Guardian of Light on release and the game still had some bugs and the push prompt disappeared from a huge boulder and we had to c4 it all over the map to trigger a switch. We deserved a fucking achievement for what we did.

>Sin and Punishment: Star Successor
Criminally underrated. Story is a little weird and disjointed, but is a 10/10 arcade shooter on the Wii.
>Muramasa: The Demon Blade
Good 2d hack and slash that debuted on the Wii. Outstays its welcome a little bit, but the hand-drawn art style is gorgeous. Fans of Japanese culture and mythology should really enjoy it.
>One Way Heroics
Very cheap steam game with a unique gimmick of having to move forward. Different classes, random generation, NPCs.
>Environmental Station Alpha
Very Metroid like.
>Boxboy Series
>Pushmo Series
Both of these are good puzzle series that are probably a little higher than hidden gem, but still not popular.
>Actraiser
>Alan Wake
These saw some popularity, but by now I think are probably something like cult classics. Definitely worth playing though.
Bonus Mention:
>Konami Remakes on WiiWare.
Haven't played them myself, but I think a lot of people aren't aware of their existence. The games were Castlevania: The Adventure, Contra Rebirth, and Gradius Rebirth.
Pic unrelated, I just like it.

Love this game, quite difficult as well ( although mostly due to the poor friendly AI ). Better than the Mechwarrior series although sadly never took off enough because of poor marketing and tribes mp overshadowing it.
dwarf fortress. It's free, tons of replayability, you can get pretty into it, but after you make your colony self sustaining more or less, it becomes a bit boring, so you have to try and pick yourself some challenges.
oh, and it looks like garbage, and the menu system is prone to giving you cancer.

>>381952891
You know that one game you played obsessively when you were younger but forgot all about? This was my game.
Absolutely magnificent remake of an already awesome game. It was made by a bunch of speedrunners and superfans of the original game IIRC, which is great. In the Giant Bomb Quick Look the devs chat about how they had to find the original artists who'd forgotten all about working on the game to ask them what the fuck certain sprites were supposed to be.

Shadowrun. still cross platform for pc and xbox. backwards compatible for the xbone as well now so able to get into a game almost any time. small community so you get to know everyone. like counterstrike in that you buy weapons/equipment every round but also spells and technology like teleportation and wired reflexes (if you have a katana with wired reflexes it lets you block bullets). Super cheap probably around 6 bucks. great game still play it all the time

It's a World building God simulator that's pretty complex. You get four different giants that create different kinds of lands and abilities. You have to do certain things to unlock more resources and things.
IMO it's very tedious and not self-explanatory. The concept is good, but it requires way too much investment for what it is. For the right person I have no doubt it is a 10/10 game, but I think for the average person its closer to a 6/10.
