take two single syllable words and combine them. keep doing this with different combinations until you get a name that sounds cool. mixing words from other languages with the same meaning also works.

I have some predefined names that usually noone ever pick.

Got 3 for male chars and 2 for females

Also, 2 of those names where generated by smashing the keyboard and modifying the result a bit

It really depends on the setting if I play a jrpg set in modern japan I usually call the character something Hiroki/Hiroto/Hiromi/Hiroshi and as nickname Hero/Hiro.
I usually try to.come up.with. a name that doesn't soind out of place or has something to do with the MC.

I either use my username that I got from modifying the result from a random name generator or just grab a random name from the Ars Goetia.

If I'm playing as a female, I use my gf's or my cat's name.

I just take the names of my cast of OCs and name my party members/MCs that way.
Also there are some great name generators out there to make things even easier
