Using the longshot just seemed like the obvious solution to me. And you kinda needed to complete water temple before you could enter shadow temple and get those boots (sequence breaking bullshit aside)

To solve this part, you need the longshot from the water temple, or the hover boots from the shadow temple. But you need to find the all the keys in the first area of water temple to get the longshot, and one of them is the block one. And to access the shadow temple, you need to beat Forest, Fire, and Water temples first.

Yeah I never had problems with this, even as a kid. It's pretty obvious what to do. Link to the Past? Now there's a fairly confusing game for a kid to figure out.
