It's great. I've been very in to emulator handhelds for a while now and it's definitely the best one out right now.

It is first gen, though, and the second one is well into development, so you should check out how that's going before you make your decision.

The second one sounds better in some ways, but due to board heating issues they made a decision on controller layout that I really don't like, the sticks are on the outside and the buttons/dpad are on the inside, so inverse of what the first has, though the sticks are pretty low profile so I can get over it.

L3 and R3 are shoulder buttons now, though, so that's a big improvement.

Buy one of the zillion RPi3 kits that give you a case/charger/heatsink, buy a decent MicroSD card, and a USB controller if need be.

I have that and an XD as well, and a Beelink Mini MXIII-II hooked up to my tv (which I play with an 8BitDo SNES controller). The XD and TV box handle retro gaming and autosync my save files on Google Drive for Switch-like versatility (my HALauncher-based homescreen in pic) and my Win is used for my Steam and GoG libraries and such, I'm currently playing AM2R on it.
