>>
Very strange. I bought a 1070 last year because I love playing games and enjoy maxing out all the settings.

Whenever I hear these stories about card shortages due to some new technology being discovered (however unintended to the card manufacturers), I feel like I'm missing out on something big. Even though I never have any intention of attempting to cash in on a trend. Is that weird? I'm not well-off financially by any means. I scrape by month to month, always living paycheck to paycheck, but see no interest or motivation to make some extra money on the side, just playing the games I love. I feel like I'm defective.

I'm the same way. I could have gone to any store in a 20 mile radius by me and bought out their switch stocks, because they literally never sold out and still have them all in stock, and made a killing online. But is all that effort worth it? I don't know, it probably would have been honestly but I'm not like kicking myself for not doing it.

The only time I'm aware the vram was a problem was when I tried playing modded skyrim with super textures. The power though, yes dual cards take a lot more power than a single card for some reason. I didn't even consider it.

>>
>>381894670
Bitcoin is actually a good idea, you're against freedom if you hate it. But yeah the reason is because consumer shit is cheaper, because the warranty exclusion most of the time. So they are literally buying up every cheap card that's within standard blockchain handle.
Everyone is also jumping on free money hype, because it's getting showcased all over youtube now that it's actually effecting gaming on the side of GPU price gouging.
This is a good thing as adopters of bitcoin raises it's overall demand and therefore it's overall value. Lowers overall profits though of single miners as they won't get prioritized. However if you haven't been mining for 3 years already at least don't bother jumping into it, you're fucking leagues behind people running 20 gpu singles and server farms with million dollar electricity bills. Now securing your finances in bitcoin though jump on that shit, unless you support frozen asset bullshit.

Should I mine some ether, or have I already missed the point where I'd actually be able to make a profit?
>>
>>381904829
Doesn't need to be. 1080ti is just being bought up because all cards on AMD capable of mining are sold out and Nvidia cards suck shit at mining so people are just buying powercreep shit from nvidia to be able to increase flow.

You'll get your video games back when biz is done shitposting and price gouging cards.
>>
>>381905036
Mining isn't for single card users, that was 2011-2014. You'll be lucky to make $1 a day while burning your gpu out in about 3 months trying to compete with server farms that have more gpus than all super computers on the planet right now, because their transaction speed is prioritized.

Single miners now require multiple gpu set up and preferably on AMD with the mining OS, windows, mac and most distro of linux a shit for mining if you intend to ride the free money meme.

Bitcoin is mostly taking your physical currency and securing it. And then there's trying to "predict" the market and invest low sell high. But mainly it's a good way to remove your money from the banking system. More and more places accept BTC depending on where you live. I live in fuck middle of nowhere and some convenience stores here accept it even.

Just keep in mind to never lose your private keys or spread your money out between different keys. I can't stress enough that bitcoin is exactly like gold. Any bitcoin lost through a physical item is removed from the market raising it's value as the private key cannot be recovered remotely. Therefore it just remains inert. So if say the app is on your phone, don't fuck it up or lose it you won't be getting that money back.

Some places have exchanges like ATMs where you put in your physical currency and tap the app on your phone with a QR code. The other way is through exchanges that trade BTC online when you set up the app and keys on your PC.

>They'll sell their cards, sure, but it will have no effect whatsoever in real world measurable market share.
>but it will have no effect whatsoever in real world measurable market share.
>Cryptofags don't use Steam.
That's not a measurement of real world market share, that doesn't matter in the slightest to if they use steam or not, what matters is did the card sell, if yes, then this pleases the investors and therefore market share of AMD goes up on the public market making their stock worth more and effectively company value raises.
Investors don't give a shit who the cards are being sold to or it's intended function, they could be beating their dick in the fan of it and they wouldn't give a flying fuck. What matters is sales and profit. Most GPU sales aren't due to video games, they are from console and manufacturer partnerships, people that buy their shit in bulk. Bitcoin miners are an ideal target group given they will buy tens of thousands of graphics cards like the people trying to build super computers and the people building fucking consoles. You and me our sale is charity compared to the real world market.

Are you high or something to assume that these sales wouldn't affect them as a company?

>>381910717
Anyone could have saw it coming from light years away the minute any coin creator that isn't autonomous is in danger that it would dip. BTC doesn't deal with this issue, because no one knows who the fuck the creator is or even if it's a single person to begin with.
Every other coin does, because they build around the exchange idea which is based on a corporate model of if the ceo is hurt profits hurt, who's gonna lead the company. That's why it's retarded to invest in anything outside of BTC.

You can always tell who the casual gamers are. They will be the first ones circle jerk about 4k-fuck-all-else in any given thread. Meme'ing the fuck out of "4k" because it sort'a sounds techie and is easy to remember, and not understanding why it's a joke and sacrifices made to humor it even on top-end PCs.

The veteran gamers are the ones that push for 1440-or-less, 60fps, anti-aliasing, scene/lighting/.shadow/reflection detail, post-processing, ambient occlusion, etc.

Get your shit together. Read an FAQ or something.

Literally nothing wrong with the r9 390 for at least 5 years. Any game that actually uses the GPU can't max it out even. Only process that pushes it is black midi files(6 million notes or more) and bitcoin mining. Your bottleneck is going to be your CPU and physical RAM.

I can't decide between a 1080 and 1070
1080 should be better for emulating shit right??
>>
>>381913045
emulation is more cpu intensive than gpu.
Get an i5 if you're cheap, an i7 if you wanna burn some cash or a ryzen if you wanna cheap out on the i7
If you're going balls deep anyways between a 1070 and 1080 just get the 1080. The better your upfront investment the less buyer's remorse you'll feel when it's time to change parts.

Ryzen is fantastic for it's price range actually especially if your into multitasking while playing vidya. Depends honestly on the money you wanna spend. But if you're replacing from intel to AMD you'll most likely have to change motherboards anyways. Don't make that kind of change unless you're really willing to rebuild your PC from the ground up.

Black midi files depending on which ones you download you want an external drive for it.
It ranges between 500gb to 1.2 terabytes in the largest records. There's a wiki out there somewhere with download links, you might be able to find downloads on some youtube videos from people linking their black midi.

This guy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPGxVUaSdvc
These people run ETH, but it's a garbage coin, but this is how you get in on the ground level. No single card miners will ever be viable and never were even since the beginning of BTC in 2011, the small timers were this guy. Now these people got pushed out of the base so they go off to make their own blockchains and they are stupid as shit. Capitalism dictates who is smart and who is poor.

Banks can freeze assets and governments can tell the bank to freeze assets, no one can ever touch your income without the private key in bitcoin.
This also means that if the device that the bitcoin is stored on is ever lost those bitcoins become inert and unable to be used without the private key. There is no way to remotely recover private keys.

The way bitcoins are created and there can only be 1800 a day created maxed out at 21 million. Is from a transaction taking place the mining machine acts as the decentralized node. There are centralized exchange hubs for trading between coin and cash, but the way a bitcoin is made is through proof of work, a transaction hits a machine that machine checks transaction the fee is a fraction of a bitcoin being added to the blockchain for the blockchain to be edited to reflect this bitcoin being created every computer on the network of this blockchain must approve it. In order for this system to be cracked it would mean brute forcing a blockchain acceptance to billions of systems worldwide, the only type of computing capable of this is quantum as there's bitcoin farms with more power than super computers now. That's what provides it's security.

Banks hate this shit, because it gives entire control over your financial assets to you the consumer to create business with. The government and banks can no longer play with your money. It's based on true ownership, not a bank holding your money and loaning it to others. This is why bitcoin cannot be stopped.
Even if the original system of BTC goes down, there will be another blockchain to take it's place, because the system is entirely opensource.

AMD is for sure better when it comes to price/quality.

RX 570 4GB vs GTX 1060 3GB? Not even a contest.
>>
>>381917562
The worth of the coin is determined by it's scarcity like gold. There can only be 1800 whole bitcoins produced a day and there's a hardcap limit of 21 million bitcoins. After this the algorithm can no longer produce bitcoin and the entire transaction method changes to mBTC transaction fees like the current exchanges have for changing it into real money.
>>
>>381917892
Doesn't that mean that, eventually, every bitcoin will be lost along with someone's broken phone?

Not exactly, you can always move bitcoin through devices, play it smart diversify your bonds. You don't keep all your bitcoin on a single device at any time, they can also be stored in an exchange hub at a fee depending on trading hub. There are digital wallets that are built solely for storing BTC and using it. And then there's people out there so crazy to get a chip implant with their digital wallet, so all they do is swipe QR and change key directs with phone for withdrawal/transaction.

There's a lot of methods to store your bitcoin, but it's intended for you to think smart about how you store it, the price of bitcoin will just skyrocket the more are lost, which just means the millebitcoin split is greater the cost of cash to bitcoin rises. But the reason there's hardcap limitations is because the opensource code is built to create other coin, so eventually someone will come through on the base system and create more cryptocurrency worth buying and investing into. It's like having a slew of valuable minerals that are limited each one will have a differing value and support based on their adoption.
>>
>>381918590
Not really my point, the question is that, if bitcoin are finite and any lost get basically locked out of the network, statistically won't lost bitcoin eventually add up to a huge amount?

Then again I suppose all that would do is drive the value of bitcoin up since it's infinitely divisible.
>>
>>381918416

>>What is "physical currency"?
>dollars, euros etc. but those guys up explained it

>>
>>381918775
They already do, there's several caches of bitcoin that are not available to the public at all through any mining attempt. If you find the private key to them you can use them, if you don't have the key they just remain inert forcing the remainder to raise in price to adjust.
A few examples
>at the start of bitcoin in 2012 someone paid 10000 bitcoins for two large pizzas at rough price today that's $25 million dollars.
>the creator of bitcoin is rumored to have 1 million coins in his possession Satoshi Nakumata is an alias and it's assumed it's a half dozen people that aren't even Japanese that created bitcoin and not a single person.
>People lose bitcoin 1 to 20 at a time just from forgetting about their device or retiring their old PC over the first 4 years until the grand spike in 2015 which lead a bunch of people searching for their old wallet. There's literally hundreds of these cases.
>>
>>381919036
Bitcoins are stored with a private key on your device you exchanged from.
The only time bitcoin will ever touch the internet directly is during the exchange from person to person or from exchanges for bitcoin to cash. The actual bitcoin is literally stored on your device, without the private key they are useless and become inert from the market. Meaning if you lose or break the device you have the bitcoin on you just lost your money. Like lighting your cash on fire.
>>
>>381919527
When Anon talks about "accounts" that means he never owned Bitcoins himself.
>>
>>381919637
I assumed he didn't the begin with from his prior post he seemed as though as was asking questions and assumed bitcoins used an account like banking systems. Easy to correct.
>>
>>381919795
There are bitcoin banking systems using accounts.
You can even sell people fiat bitcoin, showing them "x BTC" on their accounts without actually owning the crypto currency backing it.
As long as not all people draw their balance, it works, especially if they just convert from USD to BTC and back for speculation reasons.
>>
>>381919527
thanks man, I finally grasped the concept. Living in a third world country where paying with credit cards is almost non existant (everyone just gets cash from atms) does not help.
>>
>>381920052
I didn't really want to get into that, as the idea of bitcoin is to get away from it.
>>
>>381920563
It's impossible to get away from fiat banking. The base currency doesn't matter.
You can create bitcoin debt, so bitcoin debt based currency will exist at some point.
