Forget about the lack of guns, the lore reason is shitty and retarded but I really believe that the game would be even worse if they added guns right now.

Anyway, the lack of guns is a non argument - What we really should talk about is the non-existent retarded a.i. or the endless stupid grind or maybe we should talk about the fact that art direction is even less inspired than mass effect?

Dont even get me started on stupid technology that just werks or performance issues on most high end PCs (thanks for removing terraforming devs, it didn't help)

I really doubt that even half of the issues I listed here are fixed and you're telling me that the game is almost finished?

If it's the only way to get the game, I still might do it, because it's not worth missing the experience. But right now, I don't "need" the game, and it being on Steam is enough to push the balance away.

I have no problem with updating software, since I'm not retarded. I don't view it as a hassle at all. Sometimes it's even better not to use the most recent version of a piece of software.

You can click each dot on the map and see for yourself. Looks like a majority happened in parking lots between adults or were suicides.

"School shootings" is an idiotic way of looking at violent crime anyways, it implies that a violent felony is somehow more OK if it doesn't occur on school grounds.

>waiting for the service to update
Again doesn't happen often and takes only like 10 seconds to complete.

>and if they remove a game
You know damn well they won't ever do that unless YOU did something shady or illegal. Stop being retarded.

>I have no problem with updating software
Wow, aren't you a big boy. Point was it's super convenient that steam automatically does it for you when you start up steam.
>>
>>381905519
And there's a reason you can uncheck that checkbox, too.

I don't use Steam every day, so probably 75% of the time I go to play something, there IS an update waiting for me. It takes longer than 10 seconds, has to restart, etc.

I'm not here to convince you to not use Steam. I'm just pointing out that there are legitimate hassles associated with it, so if I have a choice to get something on it or not, I will prefer not to.

I even said in my original post that I would buy Subnautica on Steam if that ends up being the only option. Do you also get this up in arms when someone says their favorite ice cream flavor isn't the same as yours?

There's a difference between Timmy bringing a gun into his school cafeteria and wasting all the cool kids that made fun of him and Tyrone capping JaQuan just outside the school for trying to hustle on his turf.
One is an actual school shooting and the other is an unrelated crime that just happened to be near the school.
The media, however, likes to call both of these school shootings for some reason.

That silent running update sure was worth it

>heading to bloodkelp forest near floating islands to get to that fucked up green river area

>see the first blip on radar
>release buoy and drop to stealth speed
>see the sharks rush over to the buoy
>silent speed so fucking slow that by the time the buoy expires, i'm still in their patrol radius
>*WARNING, ATTACK*
>fuck you, unknown worlds
>hit shields
>full power and dive into bloodkelp forest

There isn't a fucking point to the silent drive when you can just power up your shields and go full speed.

Also, it was difficult enough to get the cyclops into the active lava passages in the first place, now they've made it damned near impossible with the shit geometry of that pit in front of the Aurora and by blocking the lost river up with trees at that swampy passage and rocks at the bloodkelp passage near the floating island. I don't understand the point of even having the cyclops at this point. All you need is your seaglider, the sea moth with a bunch of cargo modules, and a prawn suit for everything else, especially the active lava field.
>>
>>381907468
>and a prawn suit for everything else, especially the active lava field

>>381907468

>>381907468

>>381891139
Let me guess, you also think nuclear weapons are a good deterrent against conflicts.
>>
>>381891728
Reminder that this was one dev's opinion piece and the rest have stated that there are no guns because you're supposed to improvise.
>>
>>381907673

You don't need it to transport the suit, the game world isn't that big.

I have a base on the middle of the map at the safe shallows near the spawn. At that base, I have food, a ton of storage, a fabrication room, and a moonpool to dock my seamoth. Once the seamoth is upgraded with a MKII hull mod, I can take it down to the lost river to that little land plateau between that glowing blue tree and the wrecked precursor warper lab. On that plateau, I bring a bunch of building supplies that I've stocked the seamoth with and build two moonpools and a living quarter.

In one moonpool, I dock the seamoth and in the other, a second PRAWN that always stays down there to explore the deepest parts of the game like the prison. So basically, I'm using a deepseamoth to quickly ferry me to my deep cavern base. Plus, the precursor prison has a bunch of teleporters that even further nullifies the need for a cyclops.

>>381907717

The mobile bay fragments are usually at the grassy plateau wreckage near southern kelp forest. When you see those two holes that are basically a pit that leads down to one of the Degassi bases, you'll see the wreckage near the holes. The reefbros usually swim over it.

>>
>>381911062

Why do you have a knife then?

Before firearms being common place, they were the number one murder weapon.

Hell, in the US they're used more for murder than scary assault weapons.
>>
>>381911898
You use it to cut plants.
>>
>>381911898

So I don't have to chew coral or fibers off with my bare teeth.
>>
>>381912034

And they can give you scissors or a safety knife without a tip for stabbing.

You're given a proper dagger here, which is a weapon.
>>
>>381912178
It's literally called a Survival Knife.
>>
>>381912319
Surviving by cutting out the jugular of some nigger, sure.
>>
Can we adopt one of the Emperor's babies and take it with us off-planet?
>>
>>381912319

And it's literally a weapon that is used to murder more people in the US than assault weapons.

So, the devs reasoning is silly.

It's a diving dagger in design. A survival knife has one edge and a 90 degree spine for starting fires.

This is better. Do on both sides do make a hallway.
>>

So when you release the babies they are supposed to go different places on the map and you apparently later on will be able to visit them.
I wonder if they will be hostile or friendly
>>
>>381912667

Not as aesthetically pleasing and just a little more storage than what I have. It's similar to the configuration I have in the cyclops in the area right behind the bridge though.
>>
>>381912728
The Emperors don't seem hostile by nature compared to the other leviathans. I only hope they also have their mother's ability to pacify nearby predators
>>

There's an alternate ending, so maybe.
Although they do start to grow larger very quickly.

Why does the game run like shit? Stutters like hell on any quality setting. i7-3770, GTX 970.

Not even some PETAfag, hunting animals was one of my favorite things to do in RDR.

Um sweetie, if we just open our borders and show our enemies that we're disarmed and not a threat, we won't need to fight wars against them.

It shouldn't stutter THAT badly. I have a 970 and an older i5 and it only stutters once in a while when loading stuff in.

SJW would boycott if he didn't inject his politics. What the fuck is the point of injecting politics into video games? You're going alienate half of your audience. It's bad business. And it gives me no reason to believe they won't continue making bad decisions.
>>
>>381890471

Only because of their retarded belief that guns in video games equals real world violence.

That last part is especially true. I expect SJW studios to become progressively more insane and incapable of making something a normal human being would be interested in.

Who do you think makes and develops guns?
>>

If that were true, companies like Bioware and Ubisoft would be making games that everyone mocks.

Subnautica 2.22: You Can (Not) Swim
>>
>>381912425
>>381912659
"As an essential survival tool for thousands of years, the knife remains the only exception."

And as another Anon said, in most 'survival' games, once you have a big, badass weapon, it turns from survival into, "I hunt the biggest, nastiest enemy in the game for sport and to show off my e-peen."

By having little to no weapons with any functionality more than stunning enemies, the challenge remains right up until the endgame, while most games get honestly boring once you've made yourself functionally invincible.

It's the same with The Long Dark. Just because you have a rifle and 30 rounds, you're not invincible; the cold and hunger will kill you way more often than the animals will, especially immediately.
>>
>>381917149
Are you sure? I know some updates say you don't need to but you're missing out on shit if you don't reset.
>>
>>381907986
>>381891728
>>381892516
Why don't they just put guns in the game they're just unreliable like actual guns are underwater.
They have an actual lore reason to make the guns shittier. They're being used underwater. They also would have considerably less effective range because the water would make the bullet lose velocity much quicker.

What's actually unrealistic is using improvised high voltage devices underwater. You'd have to correctly seal them. You'd be stuck with low enough voltage power that you don't electrocute yourself.

With the control systems, you could do some ghetto ass epoxy job I guess to seal them. So those might work fine underwater.

Seriously though, making these electronics is no joke. If you can make that shit you can make a damn gun too.

This
The political reasoning is dumb as rocks, but from a design standpoint, it's perfectly reasonable. Besides, there's plenty of ways to defend yourself without needing pew-pews, plus the super-fighting robot is excellent at keeping back anything smaller than a leviathan.

Lost all interest when they announced multiplayer was cancelled
>>
>>381919539
Did that happen around the mess with No Man's Sky?
>>
>>381919539
For me it was the other way around. The early access survival multiplayer genre is crowded enough as it is so I was relieved when they stated that they won't waste development time on some tacked on multiplayer mode.

this truly is our generation's "The work of one who consorts with beasts!"

that being said, this is one of the only games I've ever pirated and liked so much that i actually bought it (that and northgard) and one of the only early access games that has any quality to it.

>>
>>381925393
If you're pretty close it goes away and anyone who's tried to find it in a dark area knows how rubbish it's lights are up close. So say, you jump out close to it in an area that's dark as shit, you can swim past it without ever seeing it and go around in circles. Also, yes. Look in the ping manager tab of your PDA. You can turn off all the locators.

That's one dev, and the others having been dancing around that statement. It's a shame too because for almost any other reason I'd probably be willing to agree; lack of ways to easily kill enemies adds to the tension.

Thank you guys for posting so much in my thread. Despite the fucking discussion about the guns. Need to continue and try finding the parts for the seamoth builder depoyable.

There are a handful of weapons (spearguns, gyrojets, etc) that make sense in an underwater environment.

it's a water mexican aka a flip, a people known for living in and within water

so it makes sense, except that flips are incapable of doing anything that isn't fishing for fish or gutting fish they've caught

Note that the parts for the seamoth upgrade builder aren't actually in the game at the moment, so you'll need to spawn it with console commands.
