Well, i started with Far Cry 3.

Far Cry and Far Cry 2 are both great, although quite different.
Rest are trash.

It depends on what you hope to get out of the series. Far Cry 1 and 2 are very different from the newer ones.

If you're after old school play 1.

If you're after a more modern and relaxed/casual experience play 3 or 4 since they're the same game content wise. Ignore Primal, play Blood Dragon if you like 4 and want a campy experience.

Far Cry 1 - b-movie action, aged like milk, gameplay is piss poor by modern standards
Far Cry 2 - very immersive, but repetetive shooter
Far Cry 3 - a fun vidya
Far Cry: Blood Dragon - Fun
Far Cry 4 - FC3 rehash with little to no new things, forgettable as fuck
Far Cry 5 - looks like a rehash, idk.

far cry 3 is the oldest game that uses the current "go to map icon and climb thing or shoot people" system from assassin's creed, so it's basically the game to start with if you are interested in modern far cry

far cry 2 has a massive world but not much to do in it, a large amount of time is spent travelling and being attacked by enemies
it has severe weapon degradation, enemies are bullet sponges and they respawn very quickly
it's not a bad game but it doesn't have all the stuff to do like far cry 3 onwards and the game is a bit of a slog to play through

But what about that time I gunned down a camp only to find out I only maimed one, then found that he crawled to safety while I killed his friend, and another shifty survivor was comforting him. I snuck up only to hear, "don't worry man, you're not going to fucking die here!" right before I rounded the corner and murdered them both. That's fantastic AI behavior in my book.

Far Cry is my favorite game of all time but it's not a good entry in the series because it's nothing like UbiCrys. It's a good entry in the Crysis series, however.

2 is a more typical UbiCry, people love it or hate it. Worth a try, but is very repetitive.

3, 4 and it looks like 5 are the same game. BD is also the same game but with jokes and worse gameplay.

How do you prevent anything from being empty? You put things in it.

If you can't fill it, make the world smaller, if you run out of space because you have too much stuff, make it larger.

Fast travel/teleporting are simply methods to negate the stuffing of emptiness into game worlds to be able to boast about the size later.

This phrase is not normally applied to video games, but its not about the size, its about how you use it.

The problem isn't emptiness, it's repetitiveness. If you copy-paste the same 5 buildings 50 times to fill up the world, then most people will start to ignore them and it will feel empty. Having an interesting world is also a good thing. I'd rather spend 50 hours in a world that has lots of area types (forest, snowy, mountainous, desert etc.) than 20 hours in a single biome. The problem is that you have to create all these biomes instead of one which takes time.

Another thing you want to consider is how fast you can travel. The map can be massive but if there are fast ways to move (flying,driving, whatever), then it won't feel as empty as a smaller map with slow travelling.
