Do high end headphones actually give an advantage in fps gaming or is it just a meme?
>does being able to hear exactly where enemies are without los give an advantage
duh
my question is whether or not theres a good software implementation for surround on stereo headphones. Realteks one is shit
>>381856839
Short answer: no. Emulating surround is impossible with two speakers, and even if there are multiple speakers within each earcup (which is actually usually the case from what I can tell), it's difficult with the speakers you have to work with clustered to two locations. And let's not even get into emulating 3D sound

If a video on youtube can give me audio prescence present day videogames can do too. Just get a nice pair of stereo headphones no 5.1 bullshit.

I have this exact pair of headphones and they're decent for music (lacking in bass but a nice soundstage) and great for gaming (really easy and accurate footsteps)

I'm rocking CloudX Stingers that go for < $50 and I've never had any problems pinpointing where people are located based on footsteps in FPS/BR games. You absolutely do not need "high end headphones."

Headphones are the least meme thing you can have. Not only are they nice for audio, they're usually far more comfortable and will last you much longer then anything under $120 (I'm lowballing). It was the only purchase over $100 that I didn't eventually regret getting.

*HyperX
Where the fuck did I get CloudX? Whatever.

This genuinely fucks me in the head. I'm surprised no indie game has taken advantage of this yet.

If this video is noticeably directional for you, your headphones are A-okay for video games:
