I can't get my teeth into ARMS, but Smash is still better than those fighting games you've listed. For racing, yeah, Wipeout is awesome, but Mario Kart is definitely still more fun to play with friends.

Nothing Nintendo makes can compete with TLOU, Uncharted or GoW, so I'll give you that. However, those are very different types of action games. I'm also not sure why Metroid Prime is under shooter, it should be under Action/Adventure, and although I'd classify it under the same overall genre as TLOU and Uncharted, I do think I prefer Naughty Dog's games, but I love the Prime series too. Also, the shooters you chose to represent are terrible. Resistance was fun, but come on.

For RPG, it's not close. Zelda should be under RPG and it's much better than HZD and the Souls series. I regret buying HZD because I didn't get enough time to play it before BotW dominated my game time. Strategy should probably be under here as well, and I'll admit Valkyria Chronicles is my favorite recent tactical RPG. In fact, I bought the fucking game three different times (PS3, PC, PS4). Survival horror, yeah, Sony gets the nod, but you picked some pretty bad examples.

What Nintendo does well, it does with near perfection. Most of flagship titles can't really be touched.

Smash bros arguably counts, because it shares at least some of the gameplay systems as other fighting games and some of the fundamentals, but ARMS obviously doesn't, it shares zero outside of blocks blocking attacks and grabs beating blocks.

You should have posted Pokken instead of ARMS in the OP, which is an actual traditional fighter which shares 100% of the mechanics and fundamentals as them, though people probably still would have shitposted about it not counting

Not him, but Pokken is legit really good. It's absurdly well balanced, all of the characters play super differently without being too different (which can be an issue in certain anime fighters), and actually does the "accessable for newcomers without sacrificing the skill ceiling" thing that SFV and shit tried to do and failed at.

Pokken's only real problem is how complicated it is to play locally, lack of training mode functions (there's no way to tell the CPU to use any attack other then 5y, have fun figuring out punishes!), and the light hit armor characters get in burst.

And I guess it could use more single player content but that's not an issue with the gameplay

I actually like Pokken too despite considering it rather mediocre, its not that great of a game due to a bunch of issues. But it does have the foundation for a good series that should they fix most of its problems, you could have a great fighting game series starting with the sequel or even DX.

ARMS is just straight up bad from a design perspective and would need a major overhaul that can't be done with simple patches or new content updates. To make arms tolerable, you'd need to do a lot more than Pokken.
