RIP anyone that wanted to build a new system. PC is DOA right now.
>>
Can't wait for the bubble to burst and all the crytocucks get fucked.
>>
>>381847328
for reals what the fuck god damn Mining Fuck heads are making the market sky rocket i should sell my RX 480 alone and buy a PS4
>>
>>381847328
So just buy a 900 series card.

Not like you need that much VRAM unless you're doing 1440p/4k.
>>
>>381847328
Cos all these mid-range cards are extremely good mining cards

>>381847456
I'm thinking of selling my 390X to these very same fellas
>>
>>381847328
So the Etherium miner picked up CUDA support?

Have to admit I'm tempted to pick up a 560 right now while they're still cheap just in case my old first-gen GCN card breaks.
Hopefully this passes by august when i was planning to do a proper upgrade.
>>
>>381847418
Right now they claim Etherium cannot be mined by ASICs but I feel that will change soon.
Someone will make a dedicated chip to do this one thing

970 with a special cooler - 330€
i7-4790k - 300ish
ram dirt cheap

last I checked right before 1070 came out those prices had actually gone up. what the fuck is going on?
>>
>>381847530
Don't hesitate. These prices won't last forever. I just sold my reference 290x I bought in 2013 for $360 USD on eBay. Once prices normalize I would have effectively traded my aging 290x for a 1070

>>
>>381847861
Well in that case that's on the older platform that uses DDR3 isn't it? Prices usually go up on older hardware after it starts to become uncommon as companies with uniform systems start to pick up spare parts to replace stuff that failed.
>>
>>381847328
how much can i sell my r9 390 for to these mining cucks
>>
>>381847861
Ethereum is the new cryptocurrency to mine, miners bought up all the raiden cards because they're better for it, they sold out so they moved on to buying geforce cards but only those with gddr5 vram (the gddr5x vram in gtx 1080 and 1080ti are less power efficient, so not worth it for mining).

DDR4 is more expensive because smartphones are eating up all the supply.
>>

Makes me wonder how much i can get for my gently used 390. Enough to upgrade, probably.

You have a warehouse of GPUs to sell. People buy them here and there. But suddenly people find out you can use these GPUs to potentially make lots of magic internet money. Your GPUs are now highly valuable because EVERYONE is rushing to buy them. You can bump the price up 100% because they'll buy it anyway.

Graphics cards are now an inelastic good like drinking water or toilet paper, so you are now slightly richer.

One upshot to this in the near-ish term is that this bubble will either burst, or the enormous gains people are making will level out (one of the two WILL happen soon), which means suppliers and resellers will have shit-tons of surplus inventory.

I know waiting blows, since I'm one of the people having to do it now, but within this year we can expect some substantial sale on these cards.

speculation. Hoarding 100k of a coin worth $.01 and then having it rise to .$10 or even $1 someday in the near future pays off.

I mean I can still get a used 1070 for like 350 but fuck that. I'm just gonna wait until whatever the next bullshit line is and just buy it on release.

Series of graphics cards by Nvidia are grouped by the hundreds. For example, the previous series of graphics cards were the 900 series which included cards from the GTX 950 to the GTX 980ti (or technically the GTX Titan but let's forget about that meme card). Series usually contain around 5 - 7 cards each with varying levels of power and price and the card's "number" will usually just increment by 10's to reflect this (The 900 series contains the GTX 950, 960, 970, 980, and 980ti). The 950/960 are the budget or "midrange" cards, the 970 is the high end card and the 980 and 980ti are the enthusiast cards. Also usually if you see a "ti" at the end of the series number just know that it basically means the card is more powerful.

Isn't it more profitable to outright buy ETH or a Bitcoin instead of mining?
>>
>>381860403
the idea behind mining is making money forever

trading could well be a better short term and even long term investment
>>
>>381854426
Well they sort of are. The point is that with such a currency the makers decide what the max amount of currency whatever available will be. Some release it over time and some did it in one go; meaning with Bitcoin: we know how many bitcoins will be brought into existence, the amount is gradually being released by mining and whatever. This is what also stimulates the market and they are about half way to the max numberwise I believe so we have a long while to go still. Other failed currencies went to the market and simply said we have 5000 coins now buy and trade for money, it simply doesn't work that way. At least I believe this is how it goes. Most people just buy them from an in between party anyways, no one really mines anymore.
>>
>>381860403
Then you are really speculating in which case I hope you have strong hands considering with crypto volatility you can easily see over 50% drops in a short period of time before the price recovers.
>>
>>381860403

>>
>>381860668
To add to this, given that bitcoin and etherium had a large run up recently, especially now that they are in mainstream attention, you could have a large collapse in price. Last time that happened to bitcoin in 2013 you would have to have waited over 3 years for your value to recover if you bought near the top.

Lol yup, pc is DOA atm. I basically hassled my brother to sell his gtx 780 like a month or two ago before its worth practically nothing and to either buy a 480 or 580. I have a 780 too but it's watercooled and I lost the screws for the stock heatsink, else I would've sold mine too.
Based on my sellers history on ebay, he could've sold the new card for at least 500 bucks slightly used, 700 if brand new. Saw some guy sell 2 580s for over 1200 bucks.

Miners process the transactions. They get paid in freshly minted coins for doing so. Pretty simple.

Bitcoin mining as a thing again along with some new crap called ethereal mining or whatever.
You use your GPU to mine for crypto currency. 1 bitcoin was like 2.7k USD the other week.
So, miners are buying up all the cards. Companies saw the influx of purchases and decided to jack up prices to make some more money.

This shit happened to me when I was first trying to build my pc 5 years ago. Was eyeing an AMD 7950 because it could play everything maxed, had 3GBs of vram and was only 180 bucks. The mining craze began right when I was about to buy and prices went up to 400+ for it. Ended up getting a gtx 770 for 320 and selling the included game codes for 60 bucks to help with the budget.
