Centra Florida is legit one of the best locations they could ever do if they just truncate the map some. Orlando area can have your Walt pastiche, have a theme park and pretend Uncle Walt got his original vision of Epcot (a utopian planned community) off the ground before the bombs fell. Go down I4 to get to the remains of Tampa where the Scientology pastiche/cult can be. Go east on 192 to get to the Space Coast and NASA for shit there or east on 92/up 95 or A1A to Daytona. DLC can get you into Ocala for survival shit, over to the Panhandle for Gulf stuff/the military stuff in Pensacola, over on the other side for St. Augustine or Jacksonville or the Georgia Border or down south for Miami or even the Keys. You can even play up the whole "Florida is weird" thing for the game.

Way more potential than just about any other possible setting.

As someone who lives on the Space Coast it's why I proposed it. Florida's a melting pot of shit from people around the country who have come down here so there's lots of stuff to play with.

I also wouldn't mind seeing something set in the East Central Commonwealth (Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee) or in the North Commonwealth (Wyoming and those states). Just something that's a little off the beaten path and not just "here's Famous City and its landmarks"; we got that in FO4 and the end result was a city inside a baseball stadium. The main story progresses even when you're not doing it. It has multiple potential events changing the direction of the whole world, which will either get triggered by the story going in one direction or if you intervene you can force it in one direction. But if you dont play a part in the story, then it will reach its conclusion.

Even up to the very end there will be options to influence the main story back in favor of whoever you side with. But depending on how unlucky they have been up to that point will determine how effective that recovery is

i.e. you ignore the main story until it nearly reaches completion, for many reason the BoS has been reduced to basically nothing. Just before the finale you lead them to a nuclear conclusion, letting them 'win', but it isnt a great outcome for them. Had you involved yourself form the beginning (or just intervened when you heard they were in risk of losing an event) you could have given them a better outcome at the end.

Unpopular idea im sure, but I would like it. Means if you decide to just fuck off and do your own thing there are consequences for the world. You're not the ultimate savor of anything if you dont get involved, and the world doesnt wait for you to stop jerking off on the other side of the map.

Honestly I want a Fallout that deals with the coming rise of a Khan/Followers empire like this ending slide of New Vegas set up:

As in, you start a quest where an NPC asks you to get them some food within the next week or so. If you take more than 7 days to actually get the food for them, you fail the quest and the NPC dies of starvation or something.

That would be fine, especially if the results of failure were creative and offered you a chance to experience something interesting. In the above example it might be being able to freely loot the NPCs corpse and house now that they're dead (I know you could do that anyway and just kill them but role playing and all that noise).

As with many mechanics, it's all about how it's executed.

People in Fallout 3 and 4 are still trying to rebuild and create homes for themselves, and themes of continued conflict and war regardless of the mistakes of the past being apparent in the current state of the world are still central to the main story lines of those games.

Fallout 3 is literally about a war between 2 large, widely established factions over a key resource, one of the most common reasons for war in all of history.

Fallout 4 is about a conflict between multiple emerging and pre-existing factions over the best way to continue the rebuilding process.

However at their core both games are still about what you're talking about. So I guess I'm not really seeing your point here.

See, normally a beth game is all about an open world you walk to different hubs in. Having a company to run and that being a literal game in itself that you have to manage gives more plot. Add more weapon mod crafting, but instead of getting unlockable upgsrdes your upgrades becpme better with more skill points invested in weaponsmith perk
Remove the "build your own town however you want" if you plan to make it shit like in 4.
Let us make our own faction and give us free reign to do whatever we want with it, even if it means total wasteland domination
Don't create a shitty "multiple endings based on faction", instead make one that doesn't have anything to do with any faction
Make self made meds to be less effective at early stages and just as efective as normal ones in later ones

Honestly I think settlement building can work just fine as long as they're not as intrusive on the rest of the game as they were in FO4.

If they had just a few of them scattered around the map that you had to find on your own (as in, no annoying black asshole constantly bugging you about this one or that one) and made building them up completely optional with no ties whatsoever to the main story then it could work.

Basically, if you included them in a way that made it possible to never touch them and not be have it never come up at all throughout the game unless you wanted to build one up then that would be fine. The problem in FO4 wasn't really the system itself but rather that it was constantly shoved in your face since the beginning of the game and tied to one of the major factions of the game so you couldn't even ignore it.

"New New Orleans" is a venician-esque city, has wood-sided buildings/houses that look fairly clean and there's not skeletons everywhere. It's somehow mostly intact, and at the center/center-south of the map, it's the biggest settlement, similar to new vegas in that respect.

most of the vaults that aren't in use are flooded courtesy of the high-water-table.

inventory is grid based, at least on the PC version, menu's for quests, or the map, or some other stuff might rely on the pip-boy, but it's a belt-mounted unit that has a carrying pouch, not a wrist-mounted one. Inventory should be grid based so I can see what the fuck I'm carrying.

(for instance, power-armor should sink in the mud and possibly lead to death by drowning or CO2 suffocation as stuff will clog up suit exhaust ports)

some mobs include Gators, Wild Boar, some form of mutant Raccoon, some form of mutant capybara,

maybe a mutant manatee/sea-cow could be a mount or a pack animal.

Will need some signs of environmental devastation resulting from reckless oil drilling, (there's been so many incidents in Louisana, from oil-spills to the Lake Peigneur Incident, to many others that probably didn't make the news. abandoned rigs should also be some form of settlement.

The settlement system isn't inherently bad. It's just that bethesda doesn't know what they're doing. Their whole design philosophy is based on quantity over quality. A big map as shallow as a puddle.
A well done settlement system could add some fun and interesting plot lines.

That about sums up my issue with Bethesda's writing, they latch onto things that seem 'cool' to them, but they're incapable of thinking them through or giving them any amount of depth. So the game ends up with a plothole-ridden contrived mess of a story where 1-dimensional characters make idiotic decisions are you're just along for the ride. But hey, there's a giant robot! And a city built near an atomic bomb! Those things sure are cool.
