Video game addiction is a very real thing, it's especially likely if you're just playing one game.

If you're the kind of person who has playing video games as some kind of "default mode", you just launch and play a game without thinking about it; there's a good chance you're addicted. This applies to stuff like 4chan, porn, whatever. You should be cautious of "autopilot' behavior.

There's two kinds of addiction, emotional dependence and chemical dependence. Someone hooked on smoking tobacco has a chemical dependence because the substances in cigarettes like nicotine are addictive,
In your case your brain is hooked on the the emotions that games make you feel; that reward response that you get whenever you do something cool like kill an enemy or beat a tough boss. Since video games require relatively little effort to get that kind of emotional response it's not too hard to get addicted. You can get addicted to literally anything that makes you feel good; weed, exercise, reading, junk food, if it's to the point that it's affecting your wellbeing and you can't properly function without it then you have a dependence.

There's a subreddit and a website for video game detox, maybe you'd wanna try that out. It's like NoFap but it actually makes sense; quit video games entirely (including watching streams or browsing gaming related sites) for at least 2 months and from the boredom you'll basically force yourself to find more hobbies and be more productive. Once that period is up and you let yourself game again you'll have a new daily routine that stops you from dicking around on the PC all day and the time you do spend gaming will be appreciated a lot more. Gaming's at it's best when you're defragging at the end of a productive day. I have a lot more fun playing games in the hour or 2 after I get home from work at like 2 in the morning than I do on free days where I can sit around and do nothing all day.

I'm going on vacation soon for like 2 months and intend on using that as my opportunity to wean myself off all the toxic shit in my life like junk food or 4chan. Maybe you should try that too.
