Still not dead dev, if you haven't read my feedback from a few days ago, here

First off your sound design is fucking awful, like bottom of the barrel garbage, all you did was use that "retro" sound generator thing, and that's it, so everything feels limp and terrible, consider at least mixing those beep boops together for something better, and grab some royalty free stock sounds, mix those in too, sound design is VERY important.

Your monsters are fucking annoying, barrel zombies are 100% not fun to fight, it worked in serious sam because sam has a pretty brisk movespeed, along with packing a ranged weapon with infinite ammo at all times, meaning you can deal with those guys at any given point if you're quick on the draw, here because you went for the rogue-like style of play and your base pistol doesn't have infinite ammo, I've found myself having to slowly run from those assholes because killing them with the knife still makes them explode.

Projectile enemies aren't fun to fight because they lead shots and projectiles travel fast, in games you draw inspiration from like Serious Sam and Doom, the player is capable of strafing around projectiles, that's not an option here and that feels like shit.

You have a lot of work to do to make this game feel and play better.


Another issue I'm seeing with Still Not Dead, there's a quite a few unwinnable scenarios, I just had a setup of particularly bad luck where I got cursed where I lose an item every round, then have my inventory randomized, then finally I had broken arm so I completely unable to defend myself. Then the game crashed.

RNG is a bitch.

It's hard to put my finger on it but your pixel art actually looks pretty nice and doesn't seem like the typical indiefag excuse for having shit graphics.

I think it's the shading on the trees and minute details like the blood dripping from the ribs on teh zombies.

I'd also add some risk-reward elements, perhaps some sort of pact with a demon or something to get a really powerful weapon. Well, the zombie outbreak seems to be supernatural in nature right? I know you can't seriously fleshed any of this out yet, but if so, demonic entities, witches, etc all make sense. You could also have holy weapons instead that reward you for doing certain things.
Perhaps there could be a hidden maiden or something in every other level and she's hidden somewhere and finding her and completing some sort of condition related to her (perhaps she's being guarded by a monster that patrols a certain area around her and goes aggro if you go near) gives you some kind of "holy" reward, with stacking rewards for more "holy" or "good" quests. You could even have that be a sort of feature in the game: Does the player sacrifice certain things to take the dark powers, or does he try to be a good person and not corrupt himself and instead be rewarded by the forces of good?

These are just random ideas, but just have fun with it, brainstorm, don't feel afraid to break the mould and do things you might consider kind of wild and silly. As long as the game balance and mechanics themselves are fine and the world is consistent within itself, anything goes. People appreciate boldness in game design.

I dunno how good the feedback I can offer is, but here goes...

I saw an anon mention earlier that they thought your sound design was shit... I disagree. I'll admit I don't think it's GREAT, but it's not bad. I feel that the sound effects add to the charm of the game. You might consider upping the base volume on the effect that lets the player know when a zombie has spotted them. You might also consider changing it to make it a bit more noticeable?

Moving on, this might be due to what I'm used to from other, similar games, but it feels like the time before the big skull thing that chases you down if you don't get to the door fast enough is a little short. Another minute or two might help with that.

Last thing I have to say, some of the buildings that can spawn are climbable with jumping, which is cool, but not being able to move the camera up and down feels really bad to me. Maybe that doesn't fit in your vision for the game, but I think it could really help if you changed that.

Well OP I played your game for ~10 minutes so I'm going to give it the TotalAsscancer treatment and pretend I'm an expert about it

Gunplay is good in the sense that the weapons sound powerful, overall great sound design granted I've only really played around with the revolver.

Don't know if there are enemies/mechanics to counter this but enemies are too easy to kite and melee to death with little risk maybe give the enemies a chasing mechanic in that the longer they chase the player the faster they get to prevent risk-free kiting

Maybe to counteracted being swarmed from the previous idea, give the player a Dark Messiah of Might and Magic style kick to do some crowd control. Have this on a stamina(?) system or cool down to prevent it from being as abusable as it was in that game.

As for the weapon sounds I feel the reason why people don't like them is because of how kinda "beep boop" they sound. Personally I don't really mind too much as it fits with the aesthetic (limited colour usage with highlighted details) and would feel that sound quality the level of Doom's wouldn't mesh well since Doom has far more detailed graphics in terms of colour and shading.

this is a small thing but the sky turns different colors, from pink to blue to yellow, green, and that's fine if you want it that way, but i'd suggest lowering the saturation of the skyline. the green and hot pink hues do not match the mood at all.

Pretty good timewaster OP, definitely has the potential to be flavor of the week/month/youtube/twitch fodder material. I'm sure you'll make a tidy fortune off of it. The movement could be tighter, and the barrel enemies really ought to have some sort of auditory cue ala Serious Sam.

Well, are you actually going to help and tell the OP about bugs in his game?

game is pretty fun so far, a little janky but i can dig it
the "Get to an exit!" mechanic is pretty spoopy
the lack of vertical aiming gives me a doom vibe (which i like) and wandering around aimlessly in a foggy area is pretty cool
maybe it changes up a bit (i didn't get that far before i died) later on but it'd be cool if there was more buildings to dive into and look for stuff

itll give u some sense of progression but it kinda sucks i think if the game gets easier if u play longer... i was thinkin about havin difficulty skulls u unlock like halo to add modifiers and such with score bonuses idunno

desu i want most of the "progression" to be in-game, like u learn more of the rules and how to play so u get better..etc

But that's what roguelike games do .
They ramp up the difficulty and with time you get better and get so many modifiers that the game feels easier.

The game feels too random.
If I get a proper weapon at start I know I'm gonna have fun, but if it's barrels or windblower I might as well just restart.

If I could buy for example, for 1000 gold a shotgun with 20 shots, that would make the game more of a challenge and I would have something to progress to.

oh and btw, i probs need to explain this better in-game but if you hold Q or F you can set a hotkey to items. (maybe its not in this build i cant remember), so u can easily throw/shoot ur barrels for damage
