I like Melee, but Meleefags have done a really good job trying to distance me from the game. Smash 4 was underwhelming, but that's just because I wasn't fond of the fanservice

Smash 4 actually offers arguably less options to entice the competitive player than Brawl did simply by virtue of the fact that the characters have so few options or proper followups that they feel rather samey (compared to metaknight specifically who had a robust combo game and good movement that far exceeds anything on offer in 4) and the fact that they added rage as an easy comeback mechanic and removed ledge play, which was a big part of what made offstage gameplay interesting in smash. The high knockback and low hitstun of moves also isn't really conducive to ensuring enjoyable competitive play.
