In a game like TF2 where you can die in less than a second to a backstab or hitscan, and your main counterplay is dodging, being stunned for 1-7 seconds unable to attack and barely able to move is a HUGE deal.

Stickies are better on defense than they should be.

In order to have a fast-paced, exciting game like TFC and Quake Team Fortress were, with players fighting at high speed and zipping around the map (as opposed to peeking corners like a pussy for 3 minutes straight), offensive elements need to be stronger than defensive elements.
Airburst stickies are an offensive element, while stickytraps are a defensive element. Now, I'm not saying airburst stickies should be buffed, but I am saying stickytraps should be nerfed.

In their current state (small, hard to see, hard to destroy, yet capable of instant death for their victim) stickytraps are a big deterrent to exciting, offensive play. In order to ensure they don't get blown up by stickies hiding on the other side of a doorway or under a traffic cone, attacking players have to proceed slowly and with caution, which is boring.

If stickytraps were easier to detect and destroy, by being explosion vulnerable and having a 1.5x bigger hitbox and world model, they would be less negatively impacting on TF2 as a fast game.

Give him something actually usefull and dangerous that isn't just burst flame damage. Make him counter projectile classes harder, like he can store projectiles now. Right click to vacuum right click again to return everything to a pinpoint location. Or hold right and press left so he doesn't have to be forced to spew them out.

Also buff after burn. Like it increases damage players take.

This is a bad idea for 2 reasons.

1: With that suggestion, Pyro is now even weaker against Scout. Right now Scout can kill Pyro first at any range, long to close. He can easily stay completely out of Pyro's primary range by holding W, and if he does get set on fire, he can run right to a health pack or throw Milk or drink Bonk. With now requiring Pyro to hold the attack on Scout even longer to get any sort of damage, Pyro will be at a complete and utter disadvantage.

2: With that suggestion, Pyro loses yet another gameplay role with its already vague class identity, since being able to easily light invisible Spies on fire is the only thing stopping Pyro being a worse spychecker than Scout and Heavy. Not only is Spy 7% faster than Pyro, able to headshot Pyro. 20% resistant to DoTs while cloaked, and able to become afterburn immune with DR or Spycicle or Kunai, but now he gets even less afterburn damage, too, making Pyro totally irrelevant as a counter.

So that's why damage rampup is a bad idea. Just leave it as a flat value.

That's pretty pointless, as good players already know to use Shotgun or stickies to deal with Pyro. It's not going to make Pyro more useful against good players, it's only going to affect bad players, and the last thing Pyro needs is to be more effective against bad players.

Pyro's core issue is that it can't get in range to attack good players with its Flamethrower before it gets shot down. Good players know to press S to escape Flamethrower's range. Bad players do not.

So any buff you make to Pyro's Flamethrower for which the counterplay is "hold S" is just going to increase the current negative situation of Pyro: that it's too good against bad players and too bad against good players.

For example, generic competitive match. Pyro runs at the enemy team with its Flamethrower out, hoping to get some minicrits on overhealed players. Scouts shred it to pieces with Scattergun before it gets anywhere near anyone.

What Pyro needs is range, non-situational damage, and mobility.

So long as you have a range capped pass-through primary, a DoT mechanic, 175HP, a built in secondary knockback/extinguish/reflect, don't move at 133% speed, don't have reload times, don't have a Pistol, have more melee damage with a lower swingspeed, and are fireproof, you're not "just another scout".

That's like calling Soldier "just another Demo".

Heavy doesn't see as much mileage as the more utilitarian Soldier, Demo or Scout but he still thrives in his niche.

He's not supposed to be a duelist without peer like the Soldier, or have the raw burst damage potential of Scout or Demoman. Or tank and tear through enemies like paper like the Heavy.

If there's anything this update with all its patches, it's reaffirming the 9 classes' roles, with things like attempting to restrict Spys sniping people in sniper range with the Ambassador.

Tracking spies, and wading into the fray alongside allies to dash around and burn and soften up the front line, closing the distance in heated skirmishes and wreaking havoc? I think that's a good place for pyro.

Heavy is a failure in his own right. He's not fun to play as for more than a small percentage of players, and he's not fun to play against, as a slow-moving damage sponge with a high DPS hitscan weapon.

Where Pyro tracks Spies, anyone else can track the second worst class in the game too.
Where Pyro "wades into the fray", other classes shoot using their guns from a safe distance, and actually get results without having to wait to get in range.

Pyro has average damage, average mobility, average HP, and the worst primary range in the game: It excels at nothing statistically, as well as being the worst at something. It's gimped against anyone who knows how to press S, and a nightmare for newbies who don't. That's why it's in need of reworking.
