Actually, 4th gen was essentially the peak of Pokemon difficulty. It's why they started making them easier with 5th gen. In Masuda's words "if we made them even harder, no one would be able to finish the game".

there are others, as someone who's large portion of their childhood was sapphire/emerald ORAS was a pretty big dissapoiintment. Not to say everything was bad, most of the soundtrack was adapted awesomely like littleroot's/rustboru's theme.

I found the original Black and White to be really boring and easy, if you did go gen 5 then I'd suggest Black 2 or White 2.

Personally, it's by far the most "going through the motions" Pokemon game to play. Even the ones I overall don't like have some things I think are pretty neat that let me feel a little passion about how they could've been better, but DPPt as a whole are just adequate across the board in my books. I guess Platinum has the most involving enemy teams outside of some important BW2 trainers on Challenge Mode, but it still isn't actually hard. The only Pokemon games I felt were "hard" were romhacks where the difficulty came entirely from extremely disjointed level curves that require excessive grinding to be even within reach of at which point they become jokes anyways like any actual Pokemon game, or early enemies having movesets that are impossible to have at that low of a level even with the romhack's learnsets leaving you at an unfair disadvantage.

I'm talking about battling, which is the thing you will do the most on pokémon. Dialogue is heavy but after the pokéstars, it gets toned down. It's not perfect but with all the content that it has even after the campaign, it's worth it playing.

Has any other major trainer ever come anywhere to the team composition as Blue or Cynthia? The both of them are the only good trainers who use actual variety. Everyone else either specializes in a type, has a shit team, or both.

Cross-sight doubles and the Frontier, basically. New Mauville was also gutted even compared to RS, which is a huge shame since it got a nice visual overhaul, though we do have the new Scorched Slab bringing the dungeon count up on par with RS. The city itself was indeed improved. Trick House and Abandoned Ship are trimmed down some in ORAS. There's also the Emerald Magma hideout which has no equivalent in ORAS, though they did repurpose the extra Magma/Aqua fights and Champion Wallace from Emerald with the Delta Episode. Enemy movesets are generally less involving, which will bother many, though personally I don't care much about that either way.

Personally though I'd put ORAS on par with Emerald. They each have their own pros and cons different people will prioritize.

Gen 3's overworld is fine, as said. Definitely the fastest there. Gen 4 is definitely slower than 3 on the overworld, but besides the surf speed in DP and walking through shit like deep snow and swamps in DPPt it's still bearable for me. Though I almost prefer the slow as shit surf speed in DP to how it is in Platinum because the various things sped up in Platinum's overworld seem to me like they were done in a really slapdash way, because while the animations for surfing and the bike are at least "smooth" in DP, they're really janky in Platinum. At least that's what I recall from replaying both back-to-back and comparing certain things side-by-side last year.

From what I recall some of the things in Platinum feel kind of off because the game runs at 30fps ordinarily but some things (like the biking) runs at 60fps and its speed causes it to look strange.

If you don't exclusively play romhacks then you are honestly wasting your time. Even then, there are much better rpg series than pokemon
