He was always pretty bad at video games. This was already obvious when he was hosting stuff on wcradio.

That said, you can still be a good critic even though you suck at games, as long as you know to stay away from things that you should not be critiquing. This includes things like game balance in a competitive game based on your personal experience. Basically the generic "waah, x character is op and it ruins the game".

I spent a season playing widow. I would sit in place and shoot the same spot on a wall over and over again waiting for my team mates to begin flaming me. I would then spend the rest of the game typing. They literally don't matter any more or less than another game, all they calibrate is the points you'd win or lose from each game and apply those to your hidden MMR that's present 100% of the time in every game mode.

The reason you HAVE to get to a certain level before playing ranked is so they can actually calibrate your MMR in quick play.

This is the same for almost every game with a MMR system. The only difference between who you match with in quick play and ranked is that your MMR, hidden or otherwise, is adhered to closer in ranked.

It'll be a mixture of that and rank decay.
Quick play won't affect your visible MMR much when you've been placed but I assume it'll increase your standard deviation of players to match with so you get worse players on average, like being the highest rank in a game with people lower vs another team with a better distribution of MMRs.

The streamer/exYouTuber Star_ did all of his placement matches with a player who was Gold last season. Star_ placed GM last season on his account, and through the 10 placement matches this Gold player played vs Masters and GM players and still placed with a ranking about 100 points higher than last season.
