Fun, but like the first game can get tedious at times, but not nearly as much so.

Writing is actually pretty decent too, if you care to pay attention, lot's of lore hinting.

A very good game you should be pleased by, as long as you don't hope for anime levels of over the top, flashy gameplay that amounts to nothing.

If you didn't play Halo 1 before this, you're in for the simple fun of Halo for the first time. Your melee is strong, and kills any normal enemy in one hit from behind. Shooting, punching and chucking grenades are all ready to go at anytime, use them all whenever you can.

I don't know how new the experience could be though, since most modern shooters eventually took some idea from Halo 2, possibly even improving on it. But Halo is about all those elements coming together, not how original each one is.

I recommend playing Halo Combat Evolved first.

However, play Halo 2 on Heroic, and all other Halo games on Legendary.

An above average enemy AI in a lot of open-ended shooting environments. It's a lot of fun seeing how you can plow through the levels.

Halo 2 was my definitive online experience as a kid

Jump up to the ledge near the beginning of the city level, and jump on the rooftops to bypass the most fucking infuriating area in the game (Sniper Alley). Don't pick up that little skull thing unless you want it to be harder.

Why would they use it more than once? Would just take away any meaning the moment had. Technically they did use it twice, but they only used the bell sound at the very beginning of the song on one of the earlier levels.

It's not a "git gud" moment. It's tedious and requires no actual skill, just dying over and over until you see where the Jackals are. It's an irritating waste of time.

Everyone needs to at least get through sniper alley once. It's not even that bad on Heroic, once you get used to it. It's pretty much ruined in Legendary though, it just becomes a game of chance.

Jackal Snipers aren't even always awful, it's just that lone area that makes it simply a chore to go through and it doesn't even give the player a single chance to evade or realize where the enemy is due to dying in a single hit.

I assumed that he would be playing on Legendary. Heroic is far too easy outside of this level and from what I can discern most play through the whole game on a consistent difficulty.

It's easy as a standard fight on Heroic though, it defeats the whole purpose of it. Can't just bitchmode out of it in Legendary, which is suffering.
