That's the whole point. It was just a truly awful console that never could pick up speed despite the games arriving on it. Nothing could save it, it was Nintendoomed from the start.

Once the public perceives your console as a failure, it's over. No one wants to buy a failed console. It's why they've shipped so few Switchs. It's better that it's sold out than on shelves making people wonder if it's popular or not

Switch has excellent marketing and the Wii U got shafted, this is true. But the biggest reason why the Switch is a success while the Wii U wasn't, is that it is just a better concept.

That little promo they showed last October tells you everything you need to know about the Switch.

Not unless they rebranded the console and introduced a major price drop. The Wii U could've done well if they didn't have that fucking tablet controller and a different name. If we could go back to 2012, rename the Wii U, and bump up the specs instead of having that controller, then we really could've seen progress.

Not having a 3DS version of Smash would've helped, but the Wii U was doomed from the start. For better or worse, the Switch proves that Nintendo leaving the console market behind was the right call.

The WiiU didn't need to be saved because Nintendo always intended the Switch to be their eight gen platform and their next big thing.
The WiiU was always intended to be a transitional platform, and succeeded with flying colors.

In a way, I'm glad the Wii U happened, most of the games were not bad but Nintendo needed a mistake to learn from, sometimes I think that they stuck their head out of their asses with the Switch thanks to the Wii U because they're doing a much better job at everything so far, except keeping with demand.
