The first games I ever played were pirated Commodore 64 games. I've been a pirate since 1988.

That being said I do buy games I've pirated if they meet 2 criteria.

1. I enjoyed them enough to play them for an hour for each dollar the game costs and
2. I'm positive the money is still going to the developers and not just the publishers.

I don't support companies that scoop up IPs and have fuck all to do with creating the games I like to play. I don't support developers that make cheap cash grabs clearly intended to trick consumers into purchasing a game.

back when studios used to release demos, it wasn't an issue, now I'm forced to pirate a game to see if it's worth my money, because you cannot trust game journalists

At worst I download roms of games that aren't being sold anymore or were never released in my region. If it does eventually get released again, I almost always buy it.
