Get an Ryzen 1700 and OC it to 3.8-4Ghz.

The gaming difference is marginal in most games and Ryzen performance is also getting better over time if the devs care about it.

>We appreciate the feedback you have provided, and your patience as we investigated this behavior. The reported behavior of the 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700K Processor, showing momentary temperature changes from the idle temperature, is normal while completing a task (like opening a browser or an application or a program).
>In our internal investigation, we did not observe temperature variation outside of the expected behavior and recommended specifications. For processor specifications, please refer to the Intel Core i7-7700K Processor Product Specifications.
>Most motherboard manufacturers offer customizable fan speed control settings that may allow for smoother transition of fan revolutions per minute (rpm). Please consult your motherboard manufacturer’s manual or website for instructions on how to change default fan speed control settings.
>We do not recommend running outside the processor specifications, such as by exceeding processor frequency or voltage specifications, or removing of the integrated heat spreader (sometimes called 'de-lidding'). These actions will void the processor warranty."

The TL;DR version is that everything checks out on Intel's end and users should not overclocked their Core i7-7700K processors, which have unlocked multipliers specifically for overclocking.

Too much effort to replace the mobo, after having to deal with after one of the parts not working, can still overclock it partially with this mobo though. I feel like such an idiot.

AMD's boxed cooler, Wraith Spire, is actually really good. performance is on pair with Evo 212 while being a bit louder. thats a 20-30$ cooler.

It can potentially provide more cooling than what you can get for a tower heatsink without going for the retardedly huge heatsinks. A 120mm rad is a pretty shit deal, though. Same performance as a mainstream tower cooler for more money.
>>
>>381660564
>The only reason why it's good is because Ryzen is so low-powered.

because Zen Core's are mostly aimed at the server market, efficiency is king. GloFo's process is called Low Power Process for a reason.
as you see in some jewtube links, R7 1700 performs damn good while lower clocked.

1.266v core to hit 4.6Ghz, it doesn't really matters if you go above 70ºC though, Intel CPUs have a Tjmax of 100ºC, something like 80ºC is still fine and I would only worry if you're consistently hitting the 90s I've had mine in the 90s while testing in Prime95 for 48 hours and nothing happened. What kills CPUs is voltage not temperature.

Purley was meant to release last December, this isn't a last minute product, you can't do that with semiconductors. Tapeout is three months alone.

The last minute part is Intel saying they'll use their MCC die for consumer parts. That's the 14-18 core models. Previous HEDT series topped out with the LCC die. That and Kaby X, that is actually just a socket change.

Its more telling that Intel haven't said anything about the higher core count chips other than that they will exist in the future - I severely doubt they have fantastic yields on them at the clockspeeds they want to compete against upcoming threadripper. All the "good" hire core count dies are still going into xeons and those absolutely will not clock high (besides, they are binned for low power draw anyway).

A 4GHz+ i5-2500k wont bottleneck a 970.
It will bottleneck a 980/1070 by a lot tho.

You obviously don't play many modern games.

Don't argue with the morons, they don't even know how to overclock it.

DELID TECH.
Thermal paste > Solder.

AMD has the same warranty, read Overdrive ToS.

I have a 1060 6GB. Processor is next on my list. Which one?
>>
>>381685528
Nobody that overclocks gives a shit about the warranty (aside from DOA hardware).

It's about selling a product marketed to enthusiasts who quickly discover it does not do what the product was marketed to do (in this case, the "K" series for overclocking).

Then, Intel, rather than admitting they fucked up, doubles down by telling people not to overclock the processor they sell for overclocking.

Lynnfield represent. That was the best CPU I ever had. I finally replaced it like two years ago.

Unfortunately, older CPUs can bottleneck newer GPUs.

Unless you use some greater than average resolution (which is nonsense with that card) or fell for the 144hz meme, there is not a single game which can't be played in 60 fps with that old silicone buddy.

My 1080p backlight died (Never buy Acer stuff) so im using a old dell screen which werks for now so buying a new screen is not a priority.

I need to get a new motherboard, ram and CPU first.

When it says i7 it really means a haswell-E or newer chip (i.e fuckloads of cores) which is why it also suggests using a R7 chip.
