Suddenly, game isn't shit anymore! It's so fun going around and shooting things, playing like a merc for hire. Some content is locked behind the plot though, like Prydwen and the Institute. Still, its fun.

The game is suddenly really good if youremove every aspect of the main quest from it.

Yes, and even if you decide to start in the vault, you can be just some random dude that witnessed the kidnapping.
I forgot how outside spawn lets you tie back into the main quest. Probably have to go to the vault.

yeah, if you give even half of a shit about the quest just to get plot-related legendary items, you'll want to pick a starting point super close to the vault. it'll have you go inside the vault and get a holotape that has an audio recording of the kidnapping, usually on Nate/Nora's dead body surrounded by roaches.
