Girls love games that are like virtual dollhouses or social in some way. The Sims, Skyrim (armor variation + housing + companions), any MMO but ffxiv in particular (mostly pve based, cute houses and outfits, lots of people), harvest moon, etc

I think it's a bunch of factors. Less women are interested in core games than men and even less of those women are into competitive games. Combine that with the fact that most people who play competitive (both men and women) aren't good enough to be noticed in competitive scenes, you'll find that the small circle of top tier players don't have many women.
