If you were a fan of the series, then the story made perfect sense. Also, just because this was the last game in the series doesnt mean its the last one story wise, that was 4. All this one did is fill in the gap between the peqeuls and Metal Gear (1988) so all the newfags got butthurt because they wanted everything answered even though that was never really what this game was about. People just played MGS3 back in the day, saw a few cutscenes from 4 on youtube, then played this and got butthurt because "lol it dont make no sense kojima is a hack!"

The trailers gave me the impression that this was gonna be the Apocalypse Now of videogames...I was kinda sad when I played it and it wasn't.
