Hidden/less known games and sales.

Frederic: Resurrection of Music Director's Cut -90% (£0.47/$0.49/€0.49) - One of a couple of fantastic indie rhythm games available on Steam and with its own unique style. Haven't tried the new multiplayer but at this price the game is worth a play regardless.
The Last Tinker™: City of Colors -90% (£1.69/$1.99/€1.99) - Lacking in some design areas and with small flaws, this is one of the few fantastic adventure games for PC, especially at this price, and is reminiscent of early Nintendo titles on the same genre.
Double Fine Bundle -93% (£6.97/$??/€??) - A couple of titles in here are particularly worth picking up including Psychonauts, Grim Fandango Remastered and MASSIVE CHALICE. Many are -90% individually too, so pick and chose to save more shekels.
Hard Reset -90% (£0.99/$1.49/€1.34) - A beautiful and interesting low budget FPS, and one of the early titles from Flying Wild Hog of the new Shaodw Warrior titles.
Collapse -90% (£1.49/$/€) - A lesser known Ukrainian post-apocalyptic 3rd Person hack-and-slash RPG.
Pathologic Classic HD -80% (£1.99/$2.59/€2.59) - I've been following the price on this and it's the lowest it's been yet- From the same guys as Void, Pathologic is an ambient and surrealistic FP adventure of sorts and an absolute world-immersive joy to play.
Transistor -85% (£2.24/$2.99/€2.84) - Fairly widely known but the price is at a new low and it's still recent enough to be worth a mention as a beautiful and well made action RPG.

I'm looking at dead cells and it seems pretty cool but I can't stand the fucking description.

>Dead Cells is a rogue-lite, metroidvania action-platformer. You'll explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle... assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers in 2D souls-lite combat. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.

Bloodborne (yes it's the same dev but technically not a souls game), Lords of the Fallen, Code Vein, The Surge, and arguably vampyr are souls like. 2D games, top down and side scrollers, are not fucking souls like.

>>381574613
>>381574779
>>381574898
The gameplay is very tight and fast. The game respects your time so it's easy to get into flow.

Outside of more content and a smoother difficulty curve, the game is at a great point and certainly worth picking up. There is extremely little downtime and the combat system is FUN.

Yes but it'll go out of EA before 2018 apparently, so no point in playing it before. But getting it on sale anyway is a good idea.

I just picked up Thimbleweed.

Game was fucking terrible, goddamn I regret that goddamn purchase. Gameplay is boring, story is unengaging, and it has an ending that is the retarded bastard child of undertale's- With all the high handed preachy message but with none of the impact or delivery, and ultimately makes the course of the game's story inconsequential.

I feel like I was fucking punished for following the plot. If you want to try an adventure game and have a hankering for some Twin Peaks atmosphere, do NOT pick this game up.

It does, but they don't hide perks from you so you could in theory plan it out yourself. There is this place called the Junkyard that gives a lot of players a hard time.

Besides that, it is just the usual issues of not knowing what stats synergize well with builds and what is important to have.

Anything RPG-Related released in recent years with deep characterization?

Action rpgs are fine (like Path of Exile, but I know theres little rivalry. Anything that has more perks than "5% more attack speed" would be fine)

Tactical rpgs are fine though I always had the feeling PC got the short end of the stick in that genre

Classic rpgs are fine (if pillars didnt go apeshit on balancing because no fun allowed in singleplayer, that would be a contender)

Are the new Sam & Max games any good?

In return, two games I haven't seen mentioned yet.
Templar Battleforce ($4.99) - X-com/Warhammer 40k inspired. Instead of a cover system, most combat is based on managing a steady flow of enemies, minimizing overheating, and accomplishing specific objectives (restart power generators, etc). Research tree is bare-bones, but individual units are fairly customizable. http://store.steampowered.com/app/370020/Templar_Battleforce/

NaissanceE ($3.74) - Nice atmosphere, partially Blame! inspired. First person walking sim with light platforming, mostly wandering around. Only a few hours long, but worth it if you enjoy the setting. http://store.steampowered.com/app/265690/NaissanceE/

you don't have to save the city to advance to the 3rd chapter. it's pretty neat actually, the ghost of one of the wizards curses you and follows you around trying to give you bad advice and telling you you suck.

Shadow of Mordor is fucking awesome. It's like Assassin's Creed and Batman done right. For that price, it's a fucking steal.
>>

I just bought and played a few hours, it feels like a shitty Batman game. Nemesis system is neat, but combat is pretty tedious and enemies respawn incredibly quickly, like 15 feet away from you

If you like surreal/weird games:

Zeno Clash 1 and 2
http://store.steampowered.com/app/22200/Zeno_Clash/
http://store.steampowered.com/app/215690/Zeno_Clash_2/
First person punching games. Pretty fun and satisfying combat, and an overall wacky tone.

The Void
http://store.steampowered.com/app/37000/The_Void/
First person game with a focus on resource management. It's made by the same devs as Pathologic, but I don't see it get mentioned nearly as much. Very artisitc game that is an allegory for the way in which creativity can affect your life. Or at least that's what I got from it, I don't know what it's actually supposed to mean.

All three of these games are currently heavily discounted, and you can get them all for less than 10 burgers.

And if you like Myst-style puzzle games:

Obduction
http://store.steampowered.com/app/306760/Obduction/
Made by the creators of Myst, it's a spiritual successor. Does a pretty good job of capturing the essence of the Myst series. It does have some performance issues, though.

Quern
http://store.steampowered.com/app/512790/Quern__Undying_Thoughts/
Deserves more attention in my opinion. It's honestly on par with the original Myst games. Plus the soundtrack is pretty gud.

These games are both 30% off right now.

Technobabylon and Primordia are pixel graphics point and click adventures, both really good

I could see the later games being okay, but the first game's remake didn't make me want to play the rest of the series. The combat system was kind of fun, but the boss battles seemed to require a shitload of grinding to do them without using DLC characters/items. The sad part is that the difficulty spikes aren't even the worst part of the game: the dialogue is. The MC is a retard with split personalities yet she has to talk in every single scene she's in.

I didn't like it, but you could try it to see if you can stand the parts that I couldn't.

Played this for an hour today, it's pretty fun for a first-person platformer though it does come with some of the drawbacks you'd expect (A couple of times it felt like I just got lucky) but it feels enjoyable and unique enough for me to keep playing, and for less than 3 bucks I can't complain.
>>
>>381592804
Note: These mods make the game a cakewalk and are only recommended to the kind of people who unironically make frag videos for singleplayer games

Not exactly sure what I should pull the trigger on.

I have some interest in FF13-3 because it reminds me of OOT a bit and it looks very different. Not sure if I should pull the trigger on FF13-2... seems like a trap.

Should I go through with it?
>>
>Look for Rayman 2 and 3 on Steam

Fuck. Is there any notable 3D platformer on Steam? Already own Sonic games.

Castlevania LoS 1/2?
>>
>>381578393
i hated the game for berating me every single time for doing poor job, when literally 95% of crap has been cleaned.

They should've just put a percentage at the end of the level, not insulting player for doing lazy job for missing space bat's testicle in some dark corner.
>>
>hollow knight
Why is this game being shilled to hell? Is it really that worthy to get?
>>
>>381593056
Its pretty good yeah, though theres a mod to improve it called Epic Encounters which I highly recommend. Adds more skills to the game and makes the non magic classes way more rewarding.

Honestly I'd say the combat system is one of the better aspects of the game.
>>
>>381593137
If you're any kind of FF fan I would suggest you stay away from any version of 13

If you're just a PC guy who's never been into the series I still say to keep away
>>
>>381593137
FF13 and its spinoffs are abominations. Also drop Alwa's Awakening unless you have very low standards for metroidvaniaish platformers. I got bored of it in under an hour. It's so generic.

So do these deals last the entire sale or do I have to grab them the day of

I am a FF Fan, 13 was hardly a game, dont know much of anything about 13-2, and 13-3 seems interesting and i could see myself liking it.

Wondering this as well. Feels like planted shills recommending it to everyone since I've never heard of it before.

No, sir. Don't spend any of your time or money on those whack ass fucking games. If you want a FF game, there are WAY BETTER options on Steam/ emulatable.

No reason you can't try it for the under 2 hour limit and see if there's enough to keep you from refunding I guess.

Shadow Warrior 2 gets boring and repetitive after 4-5 hours, it's even worse in co-op due to HP scaling turning mobs into sponges.

Magrunner: Dark pulse - Portal meets Lovecraft. A little less Polish than portal, but better puzzles.

Magicka - W I Z A R D R Y. Do you want to shit lightning out of every orifice? Do you want cast bullshit overpowered spells? It's that special flavor of game design where they went, "Well, we'll give the player heaping servings over overpowered bullshit, and that's alright. It won't matter." Best game for teamkilling.

Eversion - Cutesy platformer. Why are you looking at me like that, anon? Go and play it.
>>
>>381593758
In all honesty kinda a shitty GoW clone. Story is bad, gameplay is.. Well not terrible, but I honestly hated the fact that unless you had magic on all the time enemies hardly reacted to getting hit. Its made worse by the fact that enemies are such a joke that you never really feel threatened, and that the healing magic is so strong that even if you got hurt bad enough you'd be healed back to full in no time.
>>
>>381590026
well, if you want a "gateway" game into the RPG genere, i would recomend you chrono trigger, that game really helped me to understand the rpg mechanics.
just get a snes emulator and play the shit out of it.

>>
>>381594270
magicka 1 or 2 though?
>>
>>381594691

Magicka 1 is best, I think. 2 may have better netcode, but they spent a lot of effort trying to make it "balanced" and "more polished", and I think that harmed it.
Note that Magicka has a billion DLCs, and many of them are quite fun; I would recommend all the campaign ones.

>>381593970
oh dang, you're right. this is a good way to go if you want easy updates though.

Spaceport Hope.

If you like the idea of an exploration-based, semi-Metroidvania indie pixel platformer, but all the ones you've tried were fucking terrible, then you might want to give this one a chance. It starts out very weak, but once you've finished the first "quest", you get to explore almost the entire game world (a solar system, to be precise), giving it an open and nonlinear feel. Plus, it has an impressive selection of guns and fun, albeit not very challenging bosses.

The only downsides are the character portraits, which are hideous, and the somewhat lame story.

Oh, and it's only $0,49.
