Azeroth's forces are pushing the shit out of the Legion, they would all be content with just another victory and letting them regroup, which is what they have done historically for one reason or the other. Illidan, on the other hand, thinks "hey we're all kind of united right now, greatest fighting force ever with great heroes, armed with super powerful relics and artifacts, might as well just finish the job".

This is the first time someone has been able to fight, and win, against the Burning Legion, so he's forcing the final confrontation by opening a giant rift to Argus so we can invade for a change.
