Cheat codes have a few uses. If you're returning to a game you've beaten with no save data you can instantly get back up to speed, or if you just wanna break the rules for fun the option is there.

If you care about natural progression and playing the game as intended obviously just do that. You can skip to the final chapter of a book too if you want, but no one does that because the process of working your way through the book is the fun part.

If you import someone else's save, usually when you start the game you have to click on some other dude's name. That dude must have felt accomplished but not you.
If you type the cheat you will see it as if you unlocked it yourself. Still pretty much the same shit though, they should have some way to force you to use your own saves.
