I know these threads are kind of old but seeing as the STALKER games are super cheap right now I thought I might try one. I could do the research myself but I figured you gentlemen would have opinions regarding which version is most worth my time.
Feel free to meme and shit in here if this gets replies.

I'd say play them all in release order with only bugfixes or slight graphics mods for the full experience. If you don't want to spend too much time I think Clear Sky is skippable. Can't say anything about the Steam-versions, but the ones on GOG work fine.

Steam versions of all 3 work just fine, errors are most likely due to game's own engine anyways
There's also this, a staple for any rookie
>>381564083
I really only have time for one and yes it will be the steam version. I have the capacity to get really involved in the game so Im hoping to pick one and stick with it. Seems like COP is my best bet. How many hours do you think it would take for a newbie to clear the first game?

Thanks fellas, reading now.

~20h for SoC
>>381564996
I think 15h is more appropriate. unless you do like every single sidequest and take your time exploring the zone, 20h is too much imo. each area takes maybe 2 hours at most.

Wait so all three are the same actual game just expansions? Like seperate story expansions that all have to be played seperately? Or will downloading all of them give me the option to play it whenever like a new vegas kind of style?
>>381565151
See I would prefer to get more than 20 hours out of a survival/exploration game.
If you only want to play 1 try Call of Pripyat but I recommend all 3
>>381565313
All three are standalone games if that's what you're asking.
>>381565313
They're all separate games that take place in the same region telling different stories. CS is a prequel of SoC and CoP takes place after those two if my memory serves right.

>>381565639
Okay thanks for spelling it out for my retarded ass. It seems like I can get the stalker experience from the latest game and just look up the story from the previous two? Is COP the most polished?
>>381565990
I'd say COP is the most polished, yes. Some people prefer the first one, but I think COP benefits a lot from being less cluttered and fragmented than the other two.
>>381565990
Quality-wise, CoP > SoC > CS (piece of shit actually kept crashing on-launch at some point, compatibility mode fixed it though).
As for the story, wiki is great for reading but I'd recommend playing all 3 games nonetheless

And with that I believe my decision is made, off to grab a steam card.
TY my dudes. And they say kids on /v/ cant do anything but shitpost, ha!
