What are some old games that still have a strong community behind them?
Age of empires 2 is really popular still amongst South Americans and middle eastern countries.
Is the reason behind their popularity due to the lack of advanced computer technology on these countries where they can't play any new games?

AOE had a great atmosphere, simplistic visuals, a banger soundtrack and comfy gameplay. It's a bonus that it'll run on absolutely any machine.
>put aoe disc in cd player
>soundtrack plays

Definitely Team Fortress 2.
It's coming up on 10 years old, yet it's got a playerbase of 1,700,000 people in the last two weeks, and still has a dedicated competitive community 100,000 people strong.

Seconded, it's one of the biggest games out there considering its age.
Warcraft III still has an active community on US East and Europe. You can still find a match relatively quickly at any one time. The servers are pretty much unmoderated so it's like taking a time machine to early '00s internet when everyone flames each other without restraint.
rts games in general are popular in the ME,doesn't have to do with being able to run certain games or not
aoe just happens to be still supported by microsoft that's why it's still popular

C&C

its one of the best RTS ever, if not the best, and the genre hasn't had really any good entries in the last decade

Not Lost Planet 2, which is unfortunate because it's one of the few old games I would absolutely love to keep playing the multiplayer of. That and Warhawk.

It sucks that all this board is infested with contrarians that feel the need to shit on anything and everything that's popular.
