why is /v/ the only board on 4chan to be so divisive on the topic of piracy?
>>
Sonygroes and Nintendies. Both of them have a much harder time pirating than PC, hence they see piracy on PC as very threatening as it is a big plus for PC as a platform.

None of the other boards have such a disparity, since everyone can pirate more or less equally.
>>
>>381544303
/v/ is one of the most popular boards and is about video games so it attracts many cancerous and/or underaged people

I don't see what the big deal is. I used to pirate 90% of all my games, right now I only play ps4 so I only pirate meme games for my shitty laptop, but I really don't think it's as big an issue as some people here make it out to be.

He's kinda unnecessary.
The guy beside him is pirating the same thing unless gundam guy is somehow pirating runners or something.
>>
>>381544303
As a wannabe indie dev fag, I don't really see the reason to get your titties in a bind over piracy. If they want to pirate your game, trying to stop them is only going to make it shitty for people who want to buy the fucking game.

it's a mix between people who are obsessed with the game company of their choice and get mad when their games are pirated, trolls who don't actually believe what they're saying and just in it for fun and the weird wave of hyper conservative/libertarian people on /v/ who are pro corporations/laws who think that if something is illegal it is automatically morally wrong to do and maintain that stance in every situation (which is funny because they probably still steal music)

>>
>>381544303

Videogames are a young medium in a strange time. The consequences arent extractable through history when looking at other medium for example books that suffered piracy as well. people dedicated get often overly defensive, domming those who arent as dedicated as them for "ruining" it through for them as actions that might bring inestimable consequencies. Ironic pirateposting is a thing too so take it with a grain of salt.
>>
This is getting stupid, let's talk about games ABOUT piracy, not the software kind but the kind that get on ships and shoot cannonballs.
>>
>>381544465
Funny enough console games are some of the most pirated
>>
Why would any video game player, pirate or not, be advocating for piracy? Less money for the devs is detrimental to all of us in the long run.

Pirate if you want but don't start advocating for it, you are just hurting yourself.
>>
>>381545816
Hey man, those 3D printers are killer so long as you can afford one in the six digit area! Realtalk though if you go to a super prestigious college that has one of those six axis printers you can actually get some serious work out of it.
>>
literally roddit moralfags
nothing else
>>
>>381545118
That was the point of the comic. Even after it came out for PC people still pirated it, and wherever the game devs make the most money on a multiplat title, they're going to try to pander to that audience.
>>
>>381545898
>Videogames are a young medium in a strange time
yes but the same could be said about anime. It's like what, 60 years old? Still you don't see anyone on /a/ or /m/ giving a fuck.
>>
Probably because years ago (and still in many ways still today) the gaming industry pulled a lot of cancerous shit to combat piracy and as a result most online discuss of piracy was either for piracy or at least against things like SecuROM.

And of course whenever you have a general online consensus there is a section of /v/ who are either trolling everyone else or are 13 year old contrarians who automatically take the opposite opinion.
>>
>>381546438
Result? Anime industry is dying.
>>
>>381546438
because the effort and insight you need to aquire anime legally has been and still is far higher than just streaming/downloading the stuff compared to video games where for the longest time getting it legally was just a matter of walking over to the next store which is rather straightforward.
If Anime had been easily and widely legally available for as long as video games the culture around that would be a lot different
>>
>>381544303
I think when it comes down to it the journalists/marketers have done an excellent job in cultivating a sort of "gaming" mentality that film and music doesn't really have. Partly because it's a newer medium and people have been shunned for their hobby, but also just because of the aggressive marketing and journalists+critics more or less just being the marketing division of big game devs a lot more than other media.

Another thing is just how fucking volatile the industry is and how quick companies and games go belly up, nobody cares that Lionsgate only made 4 billion this year instead of 5 billion, but here even one failed game can break a well established company so sales become a lot more important.
>>
Paying customers are the only source of income for devs.

They dont have concert or tv advertisements to back them up.
>>
>>381547058
That money goes the publisher and whoever also has ownership of the IP. The majority of devs get their pay while making the game, and don't get a cent once it comes out.
>>
>>381545801
I pirate games and own a GTX 1070 :^)
Do something bitch
>>
>>381545289
>I want to waste my money on irrelevant shit
>wait man you can save your money because the game isn't worth buying and you can use your saved money to afford something else!
>HURR DURR WHAT ARE YOU POOR
>>
I AM SILLY
>>
>>381546183
So what basicly unless i fork over an arm and a leg for a printer. the 3D printed parts will be garbage?
Good to know
>>
>>381547058
While you have something with concerts, it's not like tv advertisments are all that healthy either. People pirating TV and movies through streaming is actually a pretty big issue. I think Netflix is sort of the Steam of the TV world. Like if it wasn't so easy to use people would still just pirate by the millions. As shitty as steam and valve is, you could argue that they more or less single-handedly"saved" PC gaming and now it's more popular than ever.
>>
>>381544303
Because /v/ is the only board where the pirates are obnoxious faggots about it
>>
>>381546438

Yes but it follows the same rules as the film industry while videogames are ayylmao technology for all I know. Its a highly sensitive medium succesable to forming and as you can see. How many anime cartoons have extreme cultural pandering right now? Compare it to videogames. Something is clearly off with it.
>>
>>381546560
Every single person I know now watches fucking anime, i am sure its dying.
Even my partying dumb ass sister who didnt know japan existed.
>>
>>381547248
To be fair, the devs income is dependent on their games selling well so they will get recommission.
>>
>>381547248
Publishers aren't generating money out of thin air either. Well, EA does.
>>
>>381547414
Yeah, everybody watches it and nobody pays for it. Just like manga. Every year they make less and less money.
>>
>>381547337
For right now, yes. The technology is rapidly improving, a $300 printer today can do things a $6000 printer could do 4 years ago. It's not very good right now but give or take a decade.

Not really. This comic got shared a lot here for a reason. Pirates will always lord it over non-pirates for wasting money, and buying customers will always feel a bit butthurt about it and get defensive. Though /v/ is one of the few places where the buying customers probably outnumber the pirates. At least in terms of vocal opinions.

I think part of the reason vidya piracy is more frowned-upon than other media is that the majority of video games, even older or more obscure ones, are still easily available on Steam, GOG etc, whereas nobody expects you to go buy a physical copy of your untranslated VN or 60s folk record because that would be an inordinate amount of money and effort.

So with vidya it's likely pirates pirate because they want something for free that others pay for, rather than for convenience or out of necessity.

personally I don't care about pirates unless they argue that piracy isn't morally wrong because muh corporations or muh gayman industry is bad

Companies go bankrupt from a lack of money in the bank, anon. It'd be impossible to attribute a failure SOLEY to piracy, but smaller indie companies get hit especially hard and that is probably the biggest contributor.
