I haven't seen a single Odin's Sphere thread, did I just miss the boat back in the PS2 days or what? This game is freaking gorgeous.

Am I missing anything by just playing on normal?
>>
Also this is probably the comfiest "chapter select" screen I've seen in ages.
>>
You didn't miss anything back in the PS2 days. The game ran so poorly on the PS2 that I'm surprised it was even released. I don't usually care about framerate, but it regularly slowed down so much that it was unplayable

>Am I missing anything by just playing on normal?
Only enemies with way too much health. I played it on normal first and then went NG+ hard mode and it was pretty fun. I can't imagine picking away at hard mode enemy hp with starting skills though. Would get tedious fast
>>
>>381534041
See, that's what I heard way back when which stopped me from picking it up. Fell in love with Dragon's Crown and when I heard about the new release I was set to get it as soon as I could (which really, wasn't soon enough).

The controls feel a lot more responsive and smoother than I expected, so that is awesome.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably do that if I go NG+
>>
I was trying to find Odin sphere for the vita but everyone in North America is sold out it seems like. Fucking lame that I missed out us have had a short print run.
>>

Amazon my man
>>
OS and Muramasa are great. Beautiful visuals and music, fun gameplay with some depth, nice little story.

They don't seem to click with some people though. I guess for every person drawn in by the art style and gameplay, there's another person pushed away by it. It's either 'weebshit' because it has a cartoony style (even though it's far from generic anime), or primitive in some way because it's side scrolling.
>>
>>381533523
The game becomes pretty easy as the characters gain more abilities. I'd recommend switching to hard after the first chapter or two but ultimately it's your decision. Difficulty level doesn't affect the story or trophies
>>
>>381534462
I was hoping for msrp price at least but I guess beggars can't be choosers. Fucking 60-110 bucks on amazon. Fucking jews man.

If any game needed a remake/remaster, it was OS. They really couldn't have done a much better job. Both DC and OSL are fantastic games. Looking forward to seeing what they do with Aegis Rim
>>
>>381533523
I like the game but I would enjoy it much more if there were less playable characters. Maybe only 3. I get kinda bored towards the end.
>>
>>381535186
>Looking forward to seeing what they do with Aegis Rim
I wish we'd get some freaking gameplay
>>
>>381535186
>>381535489
I just hope they won't make us do 13 playthroughs to see the complete story.
>>
>>381535804
>>381535489
I'm betting it won't be anything like their past games. Most of their games are action, but GrimGrimoire wasn't, so I wouldn't be surprised if this one isn't. Doesn't matter either way to me, though. I haven't been disappointed with anything they've put out
>>
>>381535804
Wouldnt mind as long as each playthrough has mostly different content is and not very lenghty overall. 4 hours per route would be perfect.
>>
I regret playing the PS2 version. It's a shame, because it could have been a good game. I'll bet the remaster is great though.
>>
>>381536036
The remaster is. It completely smooths out the originals performance while also including an enhanced version that is a borderline remake
>>

Why is Velvet's and Cornelius' gameplay so superior to everyone else?
>>
>>381539823
Cornelius and Gwen, my man. Cornelius is fuckin crazy. I wasn't feeling Mercades at all though, in the original or refined mode. There wasn't enough bullet hell shit in her story
>>

I kinda managed to be able to play Mercedes decently by the end of her chapters but she wasn't nearly as fun as the others, except Oswald, he sucks dicks

Cornelius a best, for sure. Even on the PS2 one he was fun, but in the Vita one he's insane.

Velvet and Oswald are probably the most powerful though.
>>
>>381533523
We had a ton of threads for this on the week the remake came out

Mercedes has the best story, but worst gameplay. Oswald is complete shit, both in gameplay and story. I didn't think Velvet was as bad as everyone says, I had a lot of fun being spiderman
>>

Can't wait to see gameplay. At least from the walking scenes you know there'll be at least some good old fashioned side-scrolling action
>>
>>381545152
Not necessarily. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't an action game at all. GrimGrimoire was a RTS, after all, so they aren't afraid to experiment
>>
>>381545152
I'm surprised it was even confirmed for localization at this point when Japan isn't any closer to getting it than we are.
>>
It's one of those games that is all-round excellent (the remake at least), but there's not really much to talk about.

Leifthrasier really set the bar for remakes personally, a very nice mechanics update, dual audio, and it even includes the original game with purely technical improvements.
>>
>>381533523
Are you playing with Leifthrasir's gameplay or classic? If you're on Leifthrasir then play on hard otherwise it's too easy.

Just recently finished it on the PS4. good stuff, man. Loved every bit. Leaps and bounds better than the original PS2 version too.

I'm probably gonna start on Muramasa Rebirth and finish up the gallery Dragon's Crown. This game kinda set me on a Vanillaware kick.

Be sure to also get the dlc characters since they actually play differently unlike Momohime and Kisuke.
>>
>>381549218
That's mainly what I was looking forward to. How long are their campaigns, would you say?
>>
Inventory management isn't fun.

Slowdown made some section unplayable.
>>
>>381549314
They're each 3 bosses long for their first ending, 2nd endings require refighting all the bosses from the momohime and kisuke campaigns and having the item you get after that equipped while fighting the final boss.
>>
>>381549218
Oh man, I'm still missing the last two DLCs. Loved the different gameplay.

Vanillaware game's are top notch. Odin Sphere is a little boring to play after finishing it, but the other games are pretty replayable. Can't wait to see how the new game plays.
>>
>>381549345
The remaster fixes both of those problems
>>
>>381533523
This is easily among my favorite games, heck I even own a physical copy of the PS2 version.

The game is gorgeous, the story nice and the OST amazing too. But I can understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea.

As with any Vanillaware game, they make great stories and stunning visuals but they tend to fall short on the gameplay department as it sometimes tend to become repetitive. That being said, playing this on hard forces you to learn all of the gameplay mechanics or get rekt.
>>
>>381549314
The DLCs are about 2 hours long. The neat thing is you unlock the map at the end, so you can do all the caves and story bosses with each of the DLC characters. It's basically adding another character to the game.
>>
>>381549462
Man, Vanillaware has been on top of the gameplay department since Muramasa. They've only gotten better since there
>>
>>381549452
Last dlc character is insanely broken. She's fun to use despite making everything a cakewalk.
>>
>>381533523
I gladly got the game anyway. But I still really feel like there should have been a Wii U version.
The inventory management/crafting was always my biggest gripe with the original game. Rather than the stuff they actually addressed with the remake.

With the Wii U version you would have been able to manage your inventory and throw together potions as you ran through the levels without actually having to pause your game. There is so damn much pausing in Odin Sphere. I love the game but a second screen could have unironically mitigated this by a lot.

In before
>Wii U
>le Sony hating Nintenbro
because for some reason, wanting it on the Wii U is apparently a sin of some kind in the eyes of some.
>>
>>381549387
Hey it looks like you played a lot of M:R DLCs, I have a question because sometimes I have been wanting to get em. What I liked about muramasa was the weapon tree, I'm a sucker for unlocking lots of weapons.

Do the DLC characters have some sort of weapon tree too? And how big it is?
>>
>>381549686
Well it really isn't out of the question, considering Muramasa was a Wii exclusive, originally
>>
>>381549686
I don't know, man. I don't think having an Ipad in your hand is the best solution to the inventory management in Odin Sphere.

It's just a game design flaw, no real need to fix it by porting it into another console.
>>
>remake made Mercedes actually fun
Surprised the shit out of me.

Still needed either way more content, or shorter stages/stories with less overlap between characters. Or just more character variety. It turns into a chore by the time you're Velvet. Mercedes is a great change of pace in the remake but you're still retreading stages and bosses. You can only defeat the same dragon so many times before there's a total loss of tension, especially when you know he dies at another point in the story.
>>
>>381549387
>>381549532
>>381549657

hell yes. I've already put 100 hours into Odin Sphere with new game plus. I love me some replayability.
>>
>>381549703
They do. It's about half of the main character's tree.

You have 3 skills with all the new characters, and you basically upgrade each skill with the tree.
>>
>>381549703
DLC characters don't have weapon trees, they have upgrade trees. Usually upgrade skills are divided into three types
>basic stat upgrades (like +1 to X)
>equippable accesssory (adds the types of effects you'd usually get from some swords like chance for a hit to 1-shot enemy)
>miscellaneous upgrade which change or add properties to some of your attacks, overall the best upgrades of the three
>>
>>381549849
I wish there were more bullet hell sections with Mercedes
>>
>>381549949
Mercedes was a fun character, now Velvet, I could never get used to her playstyle.
>>
>>381549849
That's the only part I didn't like much about Odin Sphere. Too may recycling of bosses. I wouldn't mind if you played with 2-3 characters, but by the end it really was kinda boring to fight the same guy five times.

Worse yet, you even fight two of the last chapter bosses with two characters before even unlocking the final chapter.

Glad they didn't do that in Muramasa.
>>
Mercedes and Ingway were best couple

>>381550648
It's not particularly that. The game ran like complete ass at certain fights on the PS2. Couldn't keep up with all the action on screen.
Plus the skill/battle system is much more streamlined in the PS4 one.
>>
>>381550717
I'm not completely sure how the game is different on the newer versions, since I didn't play much after I played through the first character on the newer version.
I just heard that only things that are better are the performance and that different characters have different skills now.
>>
>>381550870

>>381557939
Original OS did make you think a lot more about your strategy while Muramasa just lent itself to jumping and going crazy since you can just dodge whenever you see an attack coming or abuse I-frames from weapon skills.
>>
>>381558048
She wasn't that bad, I think people that have a hard time with her just upgraded the wrong skills. Her best ones are the reliable low cost bread and butter like the Round shot which is useful for getting some distance between you and the enemy to recharge POW.

This looks extremely tempting

why do I do this
>>
I'm playing with mercedes at the moment, damn she is fun but nobody surpasses cornelius yet.
>>
>>381559635
You knew deep down it was going to be a good game. And it is, so get back on and play it again!
>>
>>381559748
Remember, round shot is an early game skill but remains quite useful even by the end because it gives you room to breathe.
>>
>>381533523
Its a fun game but fuck I got burned out on its gameplay by the time I got to play as Mercedes
>>
>>381559635
I'm playing the vita version....

It's looks fantastic on the oled screen.
C'mon anon give another chance and play the game (do in small sessions that's how I'm playing right now)
>>
I wasted a lot of pp as velvet because I always got the urge to summon all the different kinds of small fairies that also shot the enemies.
>>
>>381559796
Slide shot was the shit!
>>
>>381560224
>velvet
meant to say mercedes
>>
I found a good amount of fun in the Xtra Game. (New game plus)

All your levels and upgrades carry over. it's basically your fully decked out character with all abilities vs. hard difficulty. So it all comes down to skill.
>>
S ranking every stage in the boss rush place was fun.

It's a wonderful game to play in short bursts.
Give it a try again. You'll play for a bit.
I'm just started Mercedes story and stopped for a bit, but this thread is encouraging me to go back.
>>
>>381561008
holy shit I think you misspelled 'worst'
>>
>>381558518
30 euros for a hardcover artbook? That's a steal
>>
>>381561746
All I want these amazing games to be preserved for years. I love Dragon's Crown and it's one of the reasons I still keep my PS3 around but I'd love to see it on current platforms. PC is just perfect for this.
>>

>>
>>381561414
You fags would just pirate it

Get a PS4 and join the rest of the relevant gaming world or go without, it's that simple.

>Get a PS4
Did you read his post? He said PS4/PC
Hell, I'm in the same boat as him. My PS3 died and I never got to play Dragon's Crown.
And I have a VitaTV and haven't even played Muramasa. What the fuck is my problem?
>>
>>381562015
>implying I can play Muramasa or Dragon's Crown on PS4
>>
>>381561008
The biggest problem with the minibosses is that they are often optimized for the skillset of some characters and are significantly more difficult with others.
>>
>>381533523
Like all Vanillaware games it's all style, no substance.
>>
>>381562610

Why Mercedes is so cute?
>>
Levanthan did nothing wrong.
>>
>>381564437
Really? I thought he was the easiest with Velvet and Mercedes since they have good AoE, it was hell with Oswald though.
>>
>>381550529
looks like the next release of rpcs3 is going to fix the issues on Dragons crown and OS, so I'll say pc.
>>
>>381533523
Since we're having an Odin Sphere thread, how's the PS3 version of leifthrasir? Is it acceptable? It's half the price on amazon which is pretty hard to pass up.

Yes, it's great. I had some framedrops in some really crowded fights but those were quite rare so nothing gamebreaking.

Will Muramasa Rebirth look good if I use Vita TV and 40" TV?

Apparently
>>
>>381567308
I'd imagine. PSTV looks good for all my other games.
>>
>>381568334
Nice, thanks. I just looked up and both Vita and Vita TV are 50$ so I guess I'll go with TV.
>>
>>381568532
Wait
Hold the fuck up
If you can get a Vita for 50, go for the Vita. Not the VitaTV. ESPECIALLY if you can find a Vita with OLED display.
>>
Really have to get back to this. Stopped right after unlocking Oswald
>>
>>381568639
Eh.. But I really want to play Muramasa on my TV.
>>
>>381533523
Sadly it runs like shit on PS2.
>>
>>381568874
I have both and I wish I'd just gotten the PSTV. go for it, it's fine.
>>
>>381533523
the visuals are topnotch, the remake certainly improved the gameplay
the story is a bit over-the-top-dramatic but I liked it plus, it has seibah and gil voices
>>
>>381569001
>it has seibah and gil voices
There's no way that their scenes were anything but intentional.
>>
Can someone explain to me the appeal of Muramasa? The two characters, for the most part, play exactly the fucking same, and most of your time is spent running through empty maps.
>>
>>381568737
he is another crazy combo machine monster as you can abuse his berserk mode forever, as long as you learn to cancel frames and keep moving
>>
>>381569087
yeah, I was laughing like crazy once I recognized them, hell, they even act very similar to the Fate characters
>>
Play the Remake instead. Original sucks
>>
>>381569167
that got fixed with a patch so it is no longer doable
