I haven't played many other NIS games but I can at least tell that the witch and the hundred knight felt very much like a disgaea game. I'm not talking directly about the gameplay since one is a SRPG and the other one a diablo like game, but the general stuff around it. There's just so many mechanics that on paper seem fine but you'll never end up using them that it easily overwhelmes someone who picks the game up. Like the whole facets, upgrading, pillar enhancements, eating enemies, the stomach emptying stuff and some magic summons or whatever it was. I ended up using most of those in the tower but other than that they were completely useless for me. I always ended up refilling gcals at the pillars instead of getting buffs, gear enhancements are so shit at low levels that they don't even matter and I think I ate an enemy once. It just feels bloated,

I'd much rather have better weapon balacing then half the other mechanics in the game. The sword was so fucking broken that I usually ended up getting a handful of swords and attacked everything with those, even if the enemies had resistance against them because the attack animation and speed was far superior to everything else. I could hit with the hamer maybe once when I could get 4 sword hits in and deal more damage overall.

No, it is in fact intentional. The "True" ending is so named because it was the inescapable fate Luchini and Metallia both predicted.
The Bad Ending is so named because you and Metallia destroy a few universes to patch up the one you like. Sure, it's a good ending for YOU, but you still murdered an entire world of innocent (ish) people to do it.

I really liked the game. At first it felt like some dark comedy stuff but when they gave context to some of the jokes it was actually quite depressing. Like that scene where the hundred knight finds the dead metallia in her bed and you can just kick her under the bed to sleep in it or how visco became a dog. I actually don't remember any other game catching me so offguard when they explained why those things happened.

It's not really a happy ending at all though, at least not for the world. Yes, it's a good end for Metallia and Visco, but you destroyed an entire dimension and killed countless people to get there. Metallia also still wants to take over the world and has really nobody to stand in her way anymore at the end, so everyone else in her original world is still going to get fucked hard. Looking at the whole picture it definitely is a "Bad Ending", the world on a whole is much worse off than in any of the other ones.

If you are being rude to her at the beginning of the game she slaps you around a bunch, she's like lv60 or something. If you fight her at the beginning of your first playthrough you'd have to play pretty much perfectly since anything would one shot you and she'd take quite a long time to beat, it's totally possible though.
On NG+ it's really not hard at all. You don't get an extra ending or anything for it, it's just a neat little thing. If you beat her she will be kinda surprised at how powerful you are and use some spell during the cutscene to subdue you instead

Doing the normal tower doesn't really require you to grind, unless you consider just going up the thing grinding. You don't have to repeat floors or anything.
And yeah, the story is at least interesting. It's nothing super amazing but it's worth seeing in my opinion.

Fuck the basement floors you unlock after finishing the story though, those are grindy as fuck and require you to max out your gear to get anywhere. Those don't have anything story related going on though, they are just grinding for grinding's sake.

Coven and Labyrinth of Refrain was a great hit with users, very highly rated. My opened LE is worth more on amazon used than it was when I bought it new on release day.

Once you have 4 swords with 70k+ attack, which is like floor 10 because the amount of shit that drops is fucking insane, it really just becomes pure grind.
