I think it's a pretty good idea, if you can make use of it. I believe there are a lot more people browsing the store during the summer sale than any other time of the year. It's a good chance to get extended visibility. Launch your game with -10% off and it's like part of the deal, I think that would move a lot of copies.

The problem isn't that $40 is too much. $40 is the full price and that's perfectly fine. The problem is that because full price games don't show up on the front page during big steam sales, hardly anybody is going to see it. Couple that with the fact that people are going to be getting far more games for major discounts at that time, the prospect of buying a $40 game is going to seem less appealing to them by comparison.

Basically, nobody buys full price games during steam sales so it's a stupid idea to release something during one.

It doesn't matter if the price is high or not. They're putting out a game without discounts when everyone buys NOTHING but games that are on sale. They could've put a -5% tag on it for 5 days, it could've been on the store front and done a whole lot better. Do you understand?
