Why are all horror games now just walking simulators with essentially no game play other than basic puzzles and having to walk away from enemies ?

If a game lets you fight back against an enemy, a lot of the scariness goes away.
If you can fight it, there is a way to kill it, be it glitches, grinding, whatever. If you can kill it, there's no sense in being afraid of it.
Part of what makes horror media scary is the idea that you are powerless against what is trying to kill you.
That's why a lot of horror games are all "walking simulators" as you like to call them.

People really liked Amnesia, and then a lot of developers wanted to ape that. It happens a lot.
What would you want out of a horror game? Is there a certain one you already like?
