In the Old Testament, Satan would appear to be a title, apparently he's always referred to as "the Satan." He doesn't do anything that God doesn't let him do. In fact, the wording in the Old Testament tends to be that evil spirits are sent from God.

Its always bugged me how there's this huge gap between the Old and New Testament in which Satan became this more independent force and got equated with the serpent, and with Lucifer, and whatever else he is now. I understand how that gap came about, but its not in the Biblical canon.

So I was reading parts of the bible and I am wondering, where the fuck did Middle Ages painters get the idea that "demons" looked like humans but with horns? Like fuck, saying that the shit demons pulled off in the bible was done by things that are mostly human is insulting.
