Salt & Sanctuary is literally the closest thing to a 2D Dark Souls. It's like if someone 10 years ago made some of kind of handheld DS version.

I can vouch for Salt & Sanctuary. It's a 20+ hour RPG, and that's not even if you're taking your time. It was one of the biggest surprises I've had with a blind purchase. It's a genuinely great game.

Hollow Knight is pretty much universally regarded as a good game, except by people who haven't played it and say that it's "because it's indie" or "because it's 2D" or "because it's not a PS4 exclusive".
