A hundred Poke Balls, a few Escape Ropes. That's all I need in any given run of the games, until the E4 when I blow half the cash I piled up on Revives and Hyper Potions to use between battles.

BW1 fused them with the Poke Mart and other than ORAS and the one town in XY that has no Center, it's been that way ever since. I don't like it, haven't since they did it, just feels wrong. Like Animal Crossing lumping all the shops and most other important buildings into one Main Street area separate from the town itself. It's convenient, but feels sterile.

BW1 and BW2 aren't as handhold easy as XY, and are much more content rich especially in BW2, but unless you go out of your way looking for nooks and crannies the map is much more linear compared to what came before and there's a much larger story presence so those might piss you off on their own.

That has no bearing on the gameplay and is a poor comparison of setting. It frees up area space and is convenient.
And the comparison would be more akin to a veterinary clinic attached to the general store, which isn't unheard of in reality if you want the games to be mirrors of your life.
