The peak of absolute mediocre shit being praised by a vocal minority because they got it for free, yes. The only game that rivals it in being shit but somehow survived on the meme of being good is CounterStrike.

Quake Wars, BRINK and Dirty Bomb all were dead on arrival for a reason. The Enemy Territory model was never good.

Panzerfaust wasn't to bad given you only had 4 of them and aside from that only got a shitty pistol (both the akimbo and the machinegun + heavy weapon upgrades were lv 4 so when someone got them you were close to xp reset anyways. And if you played on xp-save servers you deserve everything bad that happens)

not to mention I sincerely doubt CoD somehow became a proper role/team based shooter which was integral to the ET experience

Even something as seemingly straightforward as say first stage Battery had the side objective of "get your local friendly panzerfaust/mortar guy to blow the shit out of every idiot that doesn't learn the simple rule of NOT JUMPING OFF THE BLOODY LEDGE"

I just want a competitive multiplayer FPS with the following things:

no post processing or motion blur

strafe jumping

no iron-sights/scopes except on sniper rifles

the sniper rifle is useless

no foliage

a heavy emphasis on team play

class based

objective based maps

the only healing is from healing packs that are metered and generated by the healing class

everybody uses the same gun

3 headshots to kill everyone assuming no fall off damage

medic can revive teammates as a standard ability in melee range with basically no cool down, forcing the opponent to make decisions about gibbing the wounded enemy or killing the medic

I find this pretty fucking stupid thing to complain about. None of the characters are "lol so randum". They all have pretty good lines, isn't PC like OW and all distinct personalities as far as voice goes.

Pretty damn stupid thing to complain about.

Also they characters all fall into a class/category. Offensive, Engineers, Support/Medics, and more tanky offense.

It's a damn good game, just the way the loadout system was handled and how slow the development is hinders interest in it.
