You should do all Nier's endings.
2nd time through starts at the halfway mark, but it's going to be a bit different.
Then do part C and D in that order. Which are two choices that unlock after you do B in the bossfight. C is the first choice and D is the 2nd.
Shouldn't take you much time to do either. Endings are what really brought a lot of the praise to the series.

Want to get ROTTK13 but read a review saying its best to get the £40 ($50) version. What do? Is it even any good?

I've never really delved into the crpg genre and was looking to get into it. I've heard that Baldur's Gate 2 is one of the best and so I was thinking of starting there. My question is whether or not I should play the first Baldur's Gate first. I've heard that it's not needed, and some even advocate skipping it, while others strongly insist on playing it first. I'm more strapped for time than anything else since my backlog is getting a little too large. Is the first game a must play or should I just skip it?

It's really an experience thing. There is just some value lost watching the endings, but it isn't that big a deal if you decide to watch them after the 2nd playthrough.

After you beat the 2nd playthrough just reload the save before fighting the other boss so you can see ending C and D, so there isn't much trouble. Only trouble there being is to see ending C you have to have all the weapons in the game, so you might spend and extra 1hr just going to towns, buying them and maybe locating crates you never broke to obtain the weapons (They are all obtainable after the 1st half of the game). There is a no spoiler guide you can look up for finding weapons you missed.

It's just work that leads to payoff, but you can just skip it if it doesn't seem worth it.
