Hard to imagine, but some people do it for free
>>

They're probably real, but much less prominent than /v/ believes.
>>
>>381441653
Well, we don't know if there is none but if there is, who the fuck cares? It's your own fault if you fall for their marketing without conducting your own research before buying shit.
>>
It's not specific to 4chan. Advertisements through forums and message boards is a old thing that's been done for a long time. Even paying to cover up blunders from search engines has been done. There was some racing game that had this happen to that's a good example but I can't remember it's name.
>>
>>381441567
Not big companies. Smallers like >>381441680 would do it tho.
>>
>>381441567
v is nothing more than bunch of shills, shitload of shitposters and bots, brewing infinite amounts of hatred among the kin. Run away, let the fire burn out.
>>
>>381441567
Already been proven multiple times over the years. The big three have better methods of marketing and enough fanboys to shill for free.
>>
you don't even have to be paid to be a shill, you could be doing it out of self-interest too or because you're loyal to the brand.
>>
They're real, but if you let your paranoia compromise discussion of a video game you're just as cancerous as naked marketer.

I have certainly seen several images floating around of spammed threads that would suggest shilling was occuring, but compared to the amount of screeching about their prevalence, I doubt shills have much of an actual presence.

If people posted compelling evidence of shilling as often as they blindly accused anonymous posters of it, this board would undoubtedly improve significantly.
>>

People sure like to forget, or weren't even here when that happened a couple years ago, when someone made a thread that read 1:1 to an advertisement you would read on some official site, it was announcing a new Assassing Creed game at the time, it also linked to a stream by Ubisoft that began JUST at the minute the thread itself went up, everyone called OP out on it and the thread was subsequently deleted, not too long after that people noticed that "advertisement" was removed as a report option in this site.

Yes, there is shills, yes, there is things being advertised here all the time.

This type of shilling is going on now with a certain flop game.

Hint: It's Prey
>>
>>381444430
>but I haven't seen any hired by Nintendo yet
They don't need to when their many rabid fans will dogpile anyone that says one of your games isn't literally perfect. Their 'guerilla marketing' is higher up on the chain.
>>
Yes, Shills are really a thing, I didn't notice it on /v/, but on /fit/ monster literally started a meme as "sips" to advertise their awful drink as a work-out booster.
>>
They absolutely are a real thing, but not on 4chan. On sites like reddit - absolutely.

On /v/ you'll get the occasional indie developer pushing their own game, but you won't get the kind of actual paid PR professionals shilling like you would on reddit or other major social media platforms.
>>
>>381444535
So what you're saying is
Nintendo has loyal fans that like to talk about their games which gets them attention

while Sony and M$ hire actual paid shills to shitpost about their games for exposure?

>>
It's not really M$ or Sony... it's more the game developers themselves pushing their latest pile of shit out to make sure people buy it. Starting a conversation about it gets people engaged and is enough to sway a purchase or two, especially on a video game board.
>>
>>381444854
read it again, this time take a deep breath
>>
>>381444683
Here's an example:
>nintendo makes reviewer aware that they are willing to not supply review copies in future
>reviewer knows that in the event they can't get the review up before the release of the game, their livelihood is at risk
>reviewer tows the party line (for example "this is a flawless game", "this is a groundbreaking moment for video games", "this is a game that will go down in history)
>nintendo's loyal fanbase goes ballistic when anyone speaks rationally about the game actually not being a perfect game literally without any flaw

>>
No. The thing about 4chan is though that it's usually popular with 16-21 year olds. Every time people spam a shitty meme a new generation of faggots comes in, sees the overused memes and thinks they are actual things. When the PS3 launched the hottest meme was that the PS3 had no games, people who came in at that time basically adapted that mentality. This whole console wars with factions is also a result of that and falseflagging is only used so much because people actually believe they are part of a team.
>>
>>381445157
Console wars are the biggest fucking problem right now. This gen is the worst this board has ever seen for that shit.

No it's real, it's just way fucking rarer than people expect. There's games like Borderlands and Perfect Dark that were shilled here but they always have the same OP and the same marketer speak, and there's probably one or two smaller games where it's the devs posting about it to drum up interest.
What the retards on here don't understand is that you're not supposed to talk to these people, respond with "Shill" or "$.02 has been deposited into your account", you're supposed to ignore/report what they post and just move on with their day.
You have no idea how many fucking problems could be solved if everybody agreed to just stop fucking posting in porn/trap/political/troll/whatdidhemeanbythis/consolewar/waifu threads.

Yes it's a real thing anyone who says otherwise is dumb or a shill. Remember all those for honor threads a few months back? There are paid shills on every board don't ever think otherwise. Now do people get over paranoid over shills absolutely but to deny their existence cause a few paranoid faggots is like not believing in rape cause some people wore a charity belt or not believing trump won the presidency when everyone said just because someone like Alex Jones also said he did. My brother used to shill on /o/ for fora company back in 2009 so I know that there is far more shilling in the current year on one of the most popular boards.

If you ever wonder why most shilling backfires and goes horribly wrong because they're trying too hard, this is why. It's all middle aged white suburban hipsters. Every one knows the dankest memes come from black twitter and people under 25.
