That's initially what Splatoon almost became after the "bunnies 'n squids" concept, before instead going the pedo-route. Miyamoto REALLY didn't trust the idea of shooters (even one with paintguns instead of gritty realguns or lasers) selling in Japan without familiar gimmicks and/or had a homogenization-boner.
