If a game has shortcuts through a level that weren't explicitly meant to be, but you can get there using clever platforming that do not glitch a game in any way and only utilize the game mechanics/skills.. is it fair? Do you do it?
Case in point: I was playing through Tomb Raider 2 and there's a shortcut that requires semi-skilled use of jumping and rolling in mid-air to cut down the Temple of Xian considerably (like 2/3rds of the whole clusterfuck of the level). Was wondering if that can still be construed as a fair way to beat the level.

But that's what I mean, I'd consider it legit. As long as you don't bug and only utilize your own skill in accordance with the game's mechanics, there's nothing "cheating" or buggy about it.

If there's some kind of shortcut in the game that the devs didn't intend for but doesn't require you to break the game in someway to achieve, then it was likely just an oversight and you could probably write it off as an exploit, because you're exploiting an oversight in level design to achieve a shortcut. It's fair game, and leads to better speed running if you're into that.

If you are only spoiling it for yourself then there is no problem ever. All personal preference as to whether you use exploits or complete it as intended.
