I feel the same but every now and then I find some games that I really enjoy. Trails of Cold Steel was a big surprise.

I was the same and I hated Tales games in particular for being cheesy, but I really liked Tales of the Abyss and think it has an amazing story. It's quality of writing is also pretty great

Trails games in general have really generic plots but the storytelling itself some of the best in the entire JRPG genre.
They manage to make settings and tropes that have been done to death since the 90s feel refreshing with the absurd amount of detail put into it.
