I roughly understand why 13-17 is the general age range they have these protagonists at. They want them to be at a "relatable" age. Then there are some which are just turning 18, coming of age sort of thing. What I don't understand is why it's so damned overwhelmingly prevalent. Who actively wants to be 13-17 again? At least Welkin here was 22 when he was forcibly brought into the war. The reasoning for him being put in command was even given enough backstory to be credible, he performed well enough in the mandatory national military education to be awarded his rank.

I'll play a game if it's well made enough near regardless of the age of the characters, but stuff like what's in the OP really is just pushing it. Characters need to have a presentable, reasonable age to not be immediately dismissed. It's the same problem with the whole 1000 year old loli thing. Nobody is going to take the character seriously.

I'm probably falling for bait, but a lot of the NPC dialogue implied they tried to make the mimeosomes as human as possible, even going as far to implement hair and nail growth (unless I'm misremembering). They were meant to be a seamless as possible transition between organic and inorganic living.

I dunno, man, I think they just don't put that much care into adapting 2D design into the 3D models. Whether or not it's intentional, I don't look to Monolith Soft for pretty animu faces, anyway. They have a pretty consistent record of uncanny 3D face models, but who cares when they're investing time into the world design and every other aspect people praise the Xeno franchise for.

Going more simplistic facial feature wise seems like the smartest choice for XC2.

Also, people in real life get contacts that make them look non-human. Choosing the more mechanical lenses is probably a government approved, soft version of cosmetic augmentation that is (again) also implied by NPCs.
