My first console was NES too, but my dad came home from a yard sale one day with an Atari 2600. I played the crap out of it, because I wasn't a picky little spoiled shit, and I loved vidya more than anything. Some games I didn't understand, but I still enjoyed River Raid, Pitfall, Ms. Pacman, Space Invaders, Kaboom, Q-Bert, Asteroids, Donkey Kong and a bunch of others.

And yeah, we were dirt poor for a good portion of the 90's. Still had a great childhood.

I feel like all the memes and constant threads are gonna make people think it's not just gonna be something uneventful and boring and that it's something to be excited about.

Reminder that modern Atari isn't related to old Atari in any way other than owning the brand. Modern Atari is just Infogrames wearing Atari's dead corpse.

When I said I was barely cognizant of the Atari years I meant that I am 32 years old right now and played a 2600 as my first video game console when I was 4 years old. We got an NES in 1989, a year later. When I was a kid Atari's were still very common and seen as just yesterday's junk rather than anything retro. And I heard many first hand stories about playing Atari games from my family, who are a strange combination of rednecks who grew up in houses without plumbing but were also early adopters of satellite television, computers, and game systems. I played plenty of Atari games even though I had a NES and SNES in the 90s. Atari had a certain mystique to it (even though everyone older than me considered it utter trash at that point).

I think it will open up a market of older guys who used to play the original, the type of older guys that might have kids leaving home, used to play it and say 'they dont make games like they used to'.
If it's focused purely on gameplay, as the atari 2600 pretty much had to by hardware limitations(hopefully by design), but uses the advantages of modern hardware to compliment the gameplay, not overshadow it, I think it would definitely give it a unique position.

Each Ataribox would come with dozens of classic games, as a freebie to help move it to collectors and hipsters.
