Daily deals with good discounts for a day

Flash Sales with extreme discounts for part of a day

Its easy to understand, it cycles a lot of games in front of you allowing for discovery and it makes the sale interactive the entire time

Now all we get is two weeks of static decent, nothing special, discounts. We didn't GAIN shit for losing flash sales and daily deals

The real problem is the frequency of sales.
At first there was only the summer sale, then summer and winter, then all 4 seasons, plus halloween and other smaller sales.

With the sales only once or twice a year, most people would miss them and wind up paying full price for the game. With a sale every ~90 days or less, people start viewing the full price as a rip off.
Plus once a game goes on sale for a certain discount, that sets the bar for the expected price in all future sales, and full-price sales will decline. Thus we started seeing publishers being much more gradual with their discounts over a period of years, as well as fewer cuts to the full-price over time.

Also when the sales were less frequent, there was more time for new games to be released between sales.
Now a sale comes around and there's very little new that wasn't in the last sale.

I've personally never refunded a single game because I'm picky as fuck to begin with.

Sure enough there's maybe 10 games I've bought that I've never even played and could just as well refund. However, those were the usual 2-5$ deals for actually (supposedly) good games I told myself I'd probably play one day anyway so maybe one day I'll play them...

With the gifting changes (no more holding them in inventory forever) I think there is a chance that this sale will be good. Because resellers won't buy a million gifts and sell them later down the line, so even without flash sales there is less risk for publishers to give good discounts.

Yeah, they are, but I think video games are a bit more WYSIWYG than some other things. If you do some homework on the games you're about to buy you pretty much know what you're getting. Then again maybe it just boils down to experience.

On the other hand if someone really plays a lot of games and just buys whatever is new, going by what seems interesting even if it has no reviews and no real playthroughs online yet, I can see them refunding a lot more.
