What games allow players to control characters that feel nigh unstoppable? I mean action games, not RTS titles that entail dumping points into defense. (I don't mind stats or skill trees being involved, I just want more action, less input a command)

No better feeling than hanging back, lobbing bombs, and racking up them sweet sweet dings.

Ah, shit. I remember this one. Good pick.
More like this? Keep 'em coming, lads.
The original God of War, quite frankly.
Bayonetta and the gen 6 Godzilla fighting games come to mind.

reversing your numbers isn't going to make me any less surprised
I think the first Prototype game made you feel that way, but it's been a long time since I've played it.
Crysis felt like that too a lot of the time when you're just fucking with random soldiers in the jungle.

Watched someone play a little Prototype. You ain't wrong. Adding that to my list.
I need more tho.
Musou in general.

I've only played the second Prototype, but it very much felt that way. By late in the game, you'll be swatting those strike team helicopters out of the air like they were mosquitoes.

Asura's wrath was pretty much made in order to make you feel unstoppable. You even outright punch out an invincible God in the true ending.
